Trinium.net & TriplePlayBaseball.com

Both lead to the same place. TriplePlayBaseball.com was first but then I created Trinium.net because I wanted to start a gaming for EA Sports games. I lost interest in that but I keep the Triple Play site up since it runs itself. I was originally hosted by GA Sports (Gamer's Alliance) which changed its name to eUniverse Games. When they killed their affiliates, I turned down a sport on SportPlanet.com and went to GamersPulse.com. I like where I am now, got my own IP and no one bothers me. Only drawback is I don't have mySQL or PHP but he who has free hosting does not complain... :)

I have about 5 domains but I'm only using two of them.

Domain registration is pretty cheap. It's only $8.88 @ NameCheap.com but that doesn't include website hosting/e-mail/FTP, which can cost $20/yr and higher. If you are SERIOUS about registering your own domain and obtaining a webhost ... I would first register your domain with NameCheap.com then wait for Dixiesys.com's upcoming 2 for 1 sale where you can get either double the bandwidth and website space for FREE or get 2 hosting accounts for the price of 1.

If you want to start out small and only register a domain name, have e-mail and a very small site (under 3MB) then register with RegisterFly.com for $9.99/yr which includes all that.

I got a domain which redirects to my home computer's IP address.

I use it to share files to some friends and also to put up courseware when I teach.

I used to have my own home server, but I got rid of it now.

I suddenly have the uncontrollable urge to register a domain.

All of my domains are in my sig.

I reccomend
Go Daddy and Name Cheap to register your domain.

Both are less than $9 a year.

I purchased my domain name around the beginning of the year and the feeling I got from the 'discount' (ie $9.95, $4.95, etc /year)registrars was that they actually owned the domain name or had some control over the domain name when you registered it through them but that you had access to use it. Maybe this was some sort of result from the past monopolies of the registrars or things have just changed since then. Any truth to this?

I own PuzzlesEtc.com and am in the process of building a site to sell some unique puzzles that I have found interesting but have never found a place to buy them retail from (other than a few knick knack stores here and there). I payed something like $60 for 3 years.

Not true anymore. My domain is registered in my name with my own info. Therefore, i own its 'deed'

For example, you use godaddy's admin panel to control and administer your domain, but you can move it to another company if you feel so inclined (dunno why you would want to do that though)

I have several, a few developed and others not yet. I use them for various personal and news things. Nothing commercial.

Nothing.
I couldn't find a host that provides reliable email service (and I was ready to pay way more than most people would pay).

Hi All,
Long time lurker... first time caller
GoDaddy.com
I started with a .net domain with my name as the prefix. It is simply sitting there as I gather my thoughts.
I then purchasedwww.recorddistribution.com to use as a forward for my MivaMerchant site.
My partners (DJ Efx and 2Fresh aka M2K Distributing) are using it as a DJ source for Vintage Vinyl and a distribution re-order site for Brick and Mortar Record Stores. The Name was available. It is long, I grant you that.
I would appreciate any thoughts about how it "looks and feels" to anyone who cares to peruse it.
Allen's current project www.recorddistribution.com

I have my own domain (therealbmd.com) and I mainly use it for personal stuff -- family/friends can check it to see what's been going on recently, place to have pictures of stuff we've done and any other info or files I want up on the web. I came up with the name since my initials (and obviously AT nick) are "bmd" and bmd.com/net/org etc were all taken, but they weren't me, therealbmd.

Just switched to a new host that is ridiculously fast (at least to me here in pasadena). I've been getting download speeds of between 900KBytes/1MByte per second (like a 22.7MB movie downloaded in 24 seconds), so if you have a quick connection here in SoCal the speeds should be decent. My younger bro back east was getting ~300KByte/sec, so it should be decent just about everywhere though :).

griswoldandgriswold.com (family business)

All except the last one are used for file hosting and email.

Thanks for all the great replies! :)

So I'll probably go with godaddy to register the domain. Now the trick is... what domain to register ;)
