I'm curious how many of you guys have a Proview/KDS monitor?

For those that own one, what do u think about it, and what model do you have?

I have a rebadged KDS monitor. It's a Micron (yes, the old PC company...and the RAM company) MX900.

19" Sony tube. I like it a lot. It's about six years old now and going strong. It doesn't like high resolutions at low refresh rates (it makes a hissing noise!!!)

But my desktop resolution is 1280x960 @100Hz refresh! It does that w/no prob at all, and will do 1600x1200@70Hz. No compliants. Well...except for the fact it's HUGE and weighs about 40 pounds.

I have KDS 986N 19" CRT monitor and its ok. it seems as if its just a normal monitor with a glass cover over the display to make it seem likes it's flatscreen.

I have a MAG Innovision 19" 920PF, which appears to be Best Buy's version of Proview monitors. (it seems to be the Proview PS920Fs - my warranty card even lists a Proview return address and says "How to return your Proview/MAG monitor").

I just got it yesterday. Sale at Best Buy.

I'm already regretting it. It kinda sucks.

1600x1200 is unusable since thats 60Hz. Even 1280x1024 is questionable since thats only 75Hz, and I notice a bit of a flicker (I'm used to 85Hz).

Was having a tough time getting the display to be a perfect square; no matter what I did, one section of the screen looked a bit warped (just using the standard windows desktop to calibrate, with a bright red background color).

Not sure if I'll take it back or not. I'm lazy, and it does look decent/OK in games and when viewing digiphotos. The colors seem good.
It's just regular windows usage (i.e. text) which sucks, that and the refresh rates.

That's what I get for not bothering to check for reviews before I buy something... *sigh*

I own and use 4 KDS monitors and have very good luck. A few yeras ago I did have to RMA one though and the entire deal went smooth as silk. They even upgraded me for free because my model was out of stock.

I will continue to purchase KDS until they give me a reason not to.

lol. best buy is one of our accounts....are you sure you didn't buy the ps-920f1-s? the ps-920f-s is a really old monitor....hasn't been sold to them in a few years.

as for the monitor itself...i dunno. i use a MAG CRT at work...not fortunate enough to have an LCD...tho the damn sales people do

one lcd and one crt... both are nice monitors. one is my mom's 15" lcd (nice lcd, but it has a scratch on it, which is not kds's fault at all) and a 19" crt that my brother gave me, which is pretty nice, but gets a little fuzzy at 1600*1200, though i only use lcds becaause crts bother my eyes.

I have a KDS that I don't use anymore... after about 3 years it started making a high-pitched sound at certain resolutions.

o, just saw ur other question, i've never had to deal with customer support, there has been no reason to call them, we hav had the monitors for over 5 years (total, both monitors put together) and not a glitch. the lcd has no dead or stuck pixels, which is pretty dammn good for a 3 year old pannel.

i did and got a very informative email saying :
Your monitor is out of warranty, but please contact our technical support team for assistance on this matter at 800-283-1311x1007.

anyhow, i have owned 3 KDS monitors thusfar.
1) 19'' visual sensation series (SD) purchased through Value America deals (does anyone remember?). no frills basic shadowmask... i had a choice between a 17'' trinny and a 19'', i went for the quantity and didnt regret but that left me hanging for an upgrade... was a-ok, ended up selling it for what i got it for - basically a free ride on that monitor :)

2) 19'' AV-195TF (AG) purchased at egghead.com. this one served me well for about a year. then i had to leave it to my roomate as i had to go home to serve in the military for 3 years. when i came back, i was frustrated to see the monitor completely fuxored up. it was OVERLY bright even after several attempts at turning the brightness/focus knobs inside the shell. renovation didnt seem to be worthwhile venture, so i donated it to our community rig which sits in the living room.

3) 19'' PF1920 (AG) purchased locally from an individual. same thing as 2) except its the domestic version with possibly worse quality control. the previous owner must have taken a good care of it as it was just every bit as good as any other trinitron/diamondtron monitors out there. at the moment its at my parents house, still going strong :)

although i dont have any factual proof, i heard the rumors of sony dumping second grade tubes to budget-minded manufacturers like KDS and MAG. in other words KDS are huge YMMV.

I've owned that 19'' AV-195TF. It actually performed better than the Sony-branded 19" monitor that it replaced.

my dad and friend has this 19 inch KDS and they work fine.

Well, my dad's kds moniter blew in the first month he had it, but every product has its bad apples; so he took it to the kds place and noquestionsasked they replaced it on the spot.

friend's monitor been running for 4 yrs now
dad's monitor about the same.

oh & pic quality = excelent

I've got two 19" AV-195TF's trinnies that have served me well for years and years. The one on my main PC I've been using for 5+ years...no problems at all...excellent picture quality. The XtremeFlat series are ok, but nowhere near the trinnies they used to make. IIRC, their trinnies were Sony tubes.

1280 x 960 @ 100hz, or 1600 x 1200 @ 85hz rules.

:)

A friend of mine has a 19" Proview (can't remember the model number, sorry), and after a few months, the brightness has decreased so much that it's hardly usable @ full brightness/contrast. Seeing as he bought it retail, doesn't have a car, and is in the UK, he can't really be bothered for £90 :)

we used to carry KDS's at Staples. Apparently, they were rebadged Trinitrons.
