as for the monitor itself...i dunno. i use a MAG CRT at work...not fortunate enough to have an LCD...tho the damn sales people do

972PF is the MAG product #.
986N is the MAG "model number" - what it uses to determine the driver.

But spec-wise, it is identical to the Proview PS920Fs - the "pure flat" one.
Maybe they resurrected the old design for a limited time.

Anyways, it's not as bad now as it was when I first got it. "warm-up" and all that. :|

And after I tuned the color, I suppose it's acceptable to my eyes. Still has some out-of-focus patches, and the colors on my brother's 2 year old NEC MultiSync 75 beats it. But I think I will stick with this, it'll motivate me to upgrade to LCD much more faster. ;)

BTW the "manufacture date" on the monitor's ass says "July 2004". so its definitely a new one.

But I'm certainly not recommending this monitor or brand to anyone else, unless they're blind.

BTW #2: if you're handling all the RMAs now, maybe we should PM you before we throw our dead monitor at you, so you can give us "priority service"... and it wouldn't hurt to send us the wrong model monitor back as replacement... wrong as in a better model ;)

lol. i wish i had that power. all the RMA's I set up are for companies and stuff. All the really long RMA's are issued by customer service. I simply deal with stores. haha. and priority service on my end? hahahahaha...that's a funny one. Priority service = getting off my ass from browsing ATOT and taking 5 min to issue an RMA and everything associated with it. lol

So, I thought *Proview* was the manufacturer, and KDS was just a label, kinda like MAG.

Who's the actual manufacturer(s) and which are the labels?

never heard of proview, KDS stands for Korea Data Systems. they went belly up and were bought out by Daewoo (i think) but then Daewoo went bankrupt too! so i am kinda lost myself.. who owns the company? like anyone cares heh :p

Well KDS and Proview both used to be manufacturers and from there they re-labeled their stuff for other companies. However, KDS is out of business now...well for the most part...so mainly Proview

If Daewoo went belly-up then who owns/makes Daytek? Also, what about all those Daewoo cars?

hellfreeze: so anything labelled KDS or MAG is "built by Proview"... what other labels are basically remarked Proview's?

well depends when the KDS product was made...I'm not sure when KDS started to be made by Proview

not sure what all of the companies are...but here are some links...

Proview Announces Licensing Agreement With Xerox

(BTW...if you go to Proview.net, I know they need a new design. My boss asked me about making a new one...I said give me an LCD in exchange...guess the site isn't that important. lol)

I have the KDS 19" monitor that was on sale for $80 AR a couple months back (Does 9F-Bi ring a bell? Something like that). It works great for me all the way up to 1600 x 1200....I can't comment how it would work with intense gaming or dvd movies as I don't use it for either of those.

I had a kds xf-9b I got from wal mart. Like some other people said it didnt seem like a true flat screen monitor, just a flat piece of glass to make it seem like it. Also I had another problem where the screen wasnt square. The bottom right corner was slightly distorted, IT PISSED ME OFF!!! There was nothing I could do about it. I returned the monitor and got another one, same thing. 2 of my friends bought the same monitor, same thing. And it pissed me off that if you set the screen size to fit the screen almost completely if you turned it off and then back on it would be slightly off. I noticed this on all of the 4 of the same models I used. I returned it and bought a sony trinitron 17" crt and I love it. I will not buy another KDS crt until they get theyre sh!t straight. Tho the 15" lcds look fairly nice.

Had one 19" AV-195TF (I think that's the model) until it smoked and died (yes, it smoked and stunk up my room). I had exchanged that monitor the first week I had it because I wasn't happy with the image. I wasn't really happy with the replacement either, but I didn't want to deal anymore (it was a "hot" deal at the time, so I was fine with what I got).

KDS is generally par or sub par IMO.
