Doesn't get the job done? A 3850 would get the job done heck even my 8600gts still gets the job done at max settings although it's starting to show some slow downs on my native screen resolution with titles that aren't optimized like crysis. I don't need to play 1920x1200 resolution. Actually majority of people here don't have a 24"+ screens I bet.
1900xt no slower than 3870? You must be smoking some good stuff.

actually, I believe that he's smoking the "bad" stuff.
I can't wait for my 3870 to arrive so I can go from my x1950xt at 21.3 fps in crysis 1440x900 at all med with no aa/af to all high with 2xaa/af and...21.3 fps...
edit: hmmmm, I wonder what I'll get with this 6600gt placeholder gpu...it does have an aftermarket hsf...maybe I can oc it a little bit...I should try THAT, then maybe I'll feel a bit better...wait, this is a GT, right? RIGHT??? omfg!!!

Does anyone know if you can raise the voltage on these through software? If you could get the 3870 close to 1000 core it would be a good deal. Since it has a dual slot cooler already it should be doable.

I have a vmod on the 8800GT. I had it up to 830/2000/2000 but it needed 1.335 volts. It was still only 65C load though.
The real AMD story:
CHIP FIRM AMD said in a filing to the SEC that it wants to raise $700 million of shares.
The firm's share price was $12.70 when the NYSE closed yesterday.
The filing said that AMD expected Intel to maintain its dominant position in the market place, and it only started shipping its first quad core products during the third quarter.
AMD said its capital expenditures are such that it may face a cash flow problem. It plans to spend $300 million on capex during this quarter.
It it can't generate sufficient revenues it will face a cash shortfall.
Its consolidated debt is currently around $5.3 billion. In the prospect it said AMD cannot be certain that its acquisition of ATI will bring the full benefits it originally anticipated.
It has also made pledges to the Canadian government, and its ATI business is heavily dependent on a small number of customers. One of these handset customers has bought less than it expected.

And I have heard of a guy who used hardware modifications and liquid nitrogen cooling to overclock a 386 processor to 2.5Ghz.... and then his computer caught on fire. (well, months later due to a hitch in the cooling system).
What is your point? overclock anything enough and it will outperform the competition... and keep in mind that the GT can ALSO be overclocked beyond stock speeds.
If the 8800GT didnt exist there would be no question about it, but because the 8800GT does exist then id say the ATI cards are overpriced in comparison simply because the ATI HD 3850/70's now make the 8800GT look like a highend card with a mid-range price and because of that ATI cannot compete.
Do you know what ive had a rethink, i might just get a cheap 3870 now and do a major upgrade next year.
hopfully the 8900GT/GTS or 9800GT/GTS will be out and be a huge improvment over the current 8800 series.

Nope ive changed my mind again, ive just looked at loads of reviews and its shit, so ill be getting the 8800GT again and bide-ing my time i think.
