Haha, I forgot how it worked exactly. From what I remember, once you signed up, you got like a certain amount of points/cash for free. Then you could use those points for up to 50% of the value of the item...or some crap like that. Either way, it was awesome! 😀

That is exactly right. I ran my own small business off of valueamerica. You couldn't beat those deals.

But the question is...how many different accounts did you have? 😀

I ran out of money after my 3rd account 🙂

Even though they were located in my state (Virginia) I still purchased mucho items from them. Even after I paid the sales taxes, the prices were still 'killer' prices.

I had about 3 accounts with them, I believe.

ValueAmerica is how I nabbed my first digital camera (an HP 1Megapixel camera) ... was good as a first camera, came with a free(i think) printer too, still using it! 🙂 Don't remember the exact deal, but it was something like buy both of them and you got some sortof HP rebate... After the rebate, and ValueDollars you got both for like $100 each!

Also got one of those Dreamcasts for $100 after ValueDollars.

MEM-ORR-IIIIIES! 😀😀😀

I'm still using the 19" Hitachi I bought from them... Mercata had some insane deals with MSN bucks back in da day as well. Remember them?

I have constant reminders of them all over my room. I also remember they tried to send me a 52" TV instead of the 25" I had ordered. Boy was I tempted to keep it, but my moral's got the better of me and I sent it back.

Things that I rememeber about Hot Deals.

1.) Giftcertificates.com - the free 5 dollars thye gave.
2.) BUY.com 10 off 10
2a.) BUY.com the 20 off 20.
2b.) using the Giftcertificates from gift certiicates.com to buy 15 5 dollars worth of buy.com gift certificates + 20 dollar coupon to get 2 dvds for free.
3.) the California msn.com fiasco. BB were completely empty after one day.
4.) Value America. Look Above.
5.) Ashford.com's massive 100 off 100 coupon. Hmm the Deals.
6.) The group buy place. 30 dollars for a 50 dollar Amoco Gas Card.

and a lot more.

of course. i bought so many things from them...valuedollars...now those were the sh!t. i had at least 20 or 25 accts with them plus others for my family and gf.

Hail to Underclocked, who tipped AT to the ValueAmerica free-for-all. Essentially, you could buy anything you wanted up to $300 for half off. I never bought stuff I didn't need, but I was ordering everything I could use as fast as I could. You just knew it couldn't last.

I never got my Voodoo 3 video card fifty dollar rebate from them. :| They went out of business 3 weeks after I bought it. Oh well...great card though,i still have it.

Ohh, I remember VA. I came here about the time it was really hot. I didn't have my own CC at the time, so I missed out on a lot of deals due to that.

Did take advantage of the $10/10 and $20/20's at Buy.com though 🙂. Got lots of DVDs that way.

Did anyone else use WhatsHotNow.com? I spent almost an entire christmas break (and we had a big storm that year after break so it was extended 😀) on there, clicking through their "hot list" to get Hot Dollars. I think every 100 you got was $1/off anything. I got a TON of stuff from them, including a full size matrix poster, matrix VHS (pre DVD player time), and a ton of austin powers stuff. When they switched formats (Hot dollars were only good for like 25% off), I had accumulated a ton of them. I was saving up for the James Bond DVD collection (even though I had no dvd player, I knew I would eventually), but they were never in stock. At one point, I had a macro program set up to click through the hot list for me 🙂

Mercata was great, thats where I got my first DVD player (dual tray Toshiba, still have it). Paid like $200 for it, which at the time, was a frikken awesome deal.

Pets.com (or was it petsmart?) and their $20/20 coupons. I think between my two sisters, they bought close to $500 of pet supplies, all for the cost of shipping. I wonder why they went out of business...

Anyone remember the original buy.com monitor fiasco? I didn't jump on the deal, but it was what got the Hot Deals forum here started! It was originally in the FS/T forum I believe and they created a Hot Deals forum here just for it ... IIRC buy.com listed a 19" Monitor (forget the brandname) for an insanely low price (was a price mistake), and charged everyone's credit card immediately (was the way their system worked), and then held their money for a few days before cancelling most of the orders (I believe they had 6 or so in stock, and instead of going by first come first serve, they did a lottery and 6 people got their monitors)...

I miss VA.com so much 🙁
I got a nice stereo and a few other items from them. Back when I was a poor college student, they were a life saver 😀

How true...........still have a 19" Samsung monitor I got from them just as they shut down.....my last "score" from VA.

With the exception of the espresso maker that I bought from them, I still have everything that I bought.

As a matter of fact, I just opened a pack of Avery labels that came from them. Talk about buying too early.

Thank you VA and R.I.P.
