Hail to Underclocked, who tipped AT to the ValueAmerica free-for-all. Essentially, you could buy anything you wanted up to $300 for half off. I never bought stuff I didn't need, but I was ordering everything I could use as fast as I could. You just knew it couldn't last.

How true...........still have a 19" Samsung monitor I got from them just as they shut down.....my last "score" from VA.

Same here, I'm posting on the G400 I got near VA's end-run.

sniff sniff *tear*

Thems were the good ole days. Whenever people ask me how many DVDs I have I have to launch into the explanation of the early hot deals days and how I got 80% of my collection for at least 50% off retail (and over half for under $10).

Speaking of, any of you old timers remember when 800.com first started offering DVDs? They had that "3 DVDs for $1" promo. The selection was pretty decent and there was no shipping either. That's what started my collection. I did it with the two credit cards I had at the time, and then I basically phoned up all my friends and family asking if I could charge their card for $1 if I gave them $1 cash. Heh I was ruthless with that deal. The surprising thing was, 800.com survived a year or two after that before they closed in 2001.

Another site that had some really good prices + coupons was Onvia.com.

But yeah Value America was the best.

Oh man, I loved the good ol' days.

Both my friends got DVD players, a TV. I got a videocard, and some other junk 🙂

Remember the BestBuy Cali/Oregon MSN Deal? 400 0ff 400? CHACHING! I still have my panasonic TV that I payed sales tax for 🙂.

Yep, thanks to a legal loophole (which AT/DVDTalkers EXPLOITED BIG TIME) anyone in CA/OR could buy $400 in free stuff at any Office Depot, Best Buy and other stores back in January 2001 ... I bought a FREE Brother HL-1240 laser printer and my friend bought a FREE Palm V.

I called MSN the next day to cancel my MSN service they said ok, I was not charged any early penalty fees and got to keep my free $400 in OD stuff.

Wow, the memories.

hyuk hyuk...anyone ever use kozmo.com?

video rentals and snack food to your door in 30 minutes with no minimum purchase. I remember people used to order a pack of gum and yell at them when it came late. 🙂

I bought my first CD burner from them. It was top of the line I believe...a good ol' Smart and Friendly 6x4x24x CDRW.

Think I bought a case of 25 Kodak 650MB cds too 🙂

Anyone remember the original buy.com monitor fiasco? I didn't jump on the deal, but it was what got the Hot Deals forum here started! It was originally in the FS/T forum I believe and they created a Hot Deals forum here just for it ... IIRC buy.com listed a 19" Monitor (forget the brandname) for an insanely low price (was a price mistake), and charged everyone's credit card immediately (was the way their system worked), and then held their money for a few days before cancelling most of the orders (I believe they had 6 or so in stock, and instead of going by first come first serve, they did a lottery and 6 people got their monitors)...

Yep I got in on the buy.com monitor deal. I actually got my check from the class action suit too 🙂

ahh....that place was good for quite a few really cheap DVDs 😉

The best deal I ever got on DVDs, though, was that 800.com buy 3 for $1 deal...3 email addresses...9 DVDs...$3. 😀
