Damn...that surge is heading right up the harbor and up the river!

There's going to be MASSIVE flooding!

They're talking about the large # of mobile homes in DeSoto county.

I was just there 2 mos. ago. Lots of open land...not much to slow any of the wind down and lots of flat areas that will flood easily.

God damm Orlando is right in the center of the storm as of now.
Son of a bitch. We might be out of powers all night.
Might as well sleep through it.

Damn....I moved out of Florida just a little too early (I really wanted to see a hurricane before I left). My friends at my old work in Orlando are probably running around like chickens with their heads cut off getting everything finalized and situated. They had to take in like 3 dolphins and 2 manatees from another aquarium for safe-keeping during the whole fiasco. Only five animals but that's actually quite an undertaking to be done in one day when the lightest animal is still probably about 400lbs.....and you have to put the dolphins into a divided tank with sharks on the other side. Can we say 24-hour watch?

They lost contact with the guy that was in the eye. That was crazy. He was describing things being torn apart.

I am in east Orlando - I'm working in the UCF EOC supporting the call center to make sure everything goes smoothly.

My cousin is in Estero just east of where the eye went by, they lost power just after I got off the phone with them at 2 and lost their trees in their backyard. He hasn't been outside yet to see any other damage yet.

News reporting it heading right for Central Florida, right into Orlando. The eye should be about 10-15 miles west of my location (Kissimmee) when it passes me and goes into Orlando.

Heh, the news guy was talking about this area around the eye, and how "devastating it would be", then he draws a line from the eye, right up to my city! Hehe...

So far, its not bad, just very rainy and windy. Its the beginning, I can imagine it'll get worse over the next hour or so.

News reporting it'll hit my area in 30 minutes (8:30), and Orlando in an hour and a half (9:30pm)...

Eh...

Some people are just moronic....its almost like they deserve it.

I mean WTF, a hurricane warning has been out for over 48 hrs. People have been warned to stay in....i.e. not outside and especially not driving.
WTF are these people driving ??? IDIOTS.

More moronic sighting.
A reporter was out in some deserted place...wind blowing, raining, not a single soul around and she found one idiot wandering around.

He's like, "well, I got off work early and I came out here looking for a place to eat. Theres no one around, its like a ghost town. Hell, even McDonalds is closed"

Yeah right.....either hes been living in a cave or this thug was trying to loot without anyone around.

Actaeon, thanks for keeping us posted on what's going on down there. We're 50 miles north of the Florida border so we've been watching this thing too. We're keeping our fingers crossed for you.

I was completely prepared for anything here in Clearwater. Contrary to the direct hit we were told to expect, we didn't get so much as a couple 10 minute sprinkles and some calm breezes...Phewf! God Bless all those that may not have been as fortunate...:brokenheart:
