I know we have some car nuts up in here.....

So I ask, who else is gonna miss the F-body Camaro's and Firebirds? Not to mention their LS1 counterparts, Camaro SS, Camaro Z28, Firebird Formula, and Firebird Trans Am?

I'm gonna miss them like crazy, it's a great platform, sleek looking cars, and the LS1's are very AWESOME motors!

Personally I bought myself a 1998 Pontiac Trans AM........I am constantly wowed by the power and beauty of this machine......It turns heads EVERYWHERE I go, from the young kids who are just dreaming of the day they can drive, to the older folks who probably owned muscle cars of their era.....

Here's a few pics of my baby: http://users.oco.net/xero/ta/index.html <-------watch out, she's topless in those pics ;)

:(

It's a sad time for Fbody owners........All I can say is, MORE POWER!!!!!! HAHAH.......THe LS1 motor rocks, and after 37k miles on my current machine, It's still strong......

Opinions? Comments? Questions?

Nah. I've never really been a fan of the f-bodies, but its always a shame when any car with history goes out of production.

I should hope so. 37k isn't exactly a lot.

Hahaha

And to answer your question, no I am not really going to miss them at all.
They are ugly, horribly unreliable...
I always saw them as a shoddy $2000 car body with a big truck engine bolted in.

Edit: When I say ugly, I am talking about the new ones.

Uck! I hate firebirds, and camaros. They are ugly, and their bodies are outdated. While I like the power, they are unreliable after a certain amount of time and miles. All I can say is good riddance! :disgust:

The question is, who's gonna miss a car whose hood, windshield, and dashboard are too long and provide poor visibility, has huge blind spots, and has the turning radius of an SUV?

The LS1 is sweet, the platform is not.

Excellent cars. People who talk sh*t about them have never driven one or are into rice. Can't really take them serious as people who appreciate performance.

Good riddance, f-body. I've been waiting for this day for a long time. It will still take another decade to get them all off the streets though! :disgust:

I only hold a grudge against the 'conformist' ideals behind them, poor build quality, and the general fact that later-model ones are not unique whatsoever, and the things are every dadgum place you look! It's the teenybopper car for this generation, and is NOT a true sports car. On that note, I'd rather see f-bodys on the streets than ricers. (All of the above goes for Mustangs too)

Bingo. I like the old ones though, but I still wouldn't even buy one of them.

I hate f-bodies and I hate rice. You think there's no other medium? Hello, Germany? You want real total performance, you're going to find it in a Porsche or BMW... not a friggin' Camaro... lmao...

i WAS a die-hard ford fan, but after driving a couple Z28s and a trans am, those cars are amazing!!!! The amount of power after you drop in gear throws you back in your seat.

It only makes you wonder what car chevy is going to break out to keep up with the mustangs now...

German cars are so overrated, BMW is in the top 3 highest percent ratings of cars with extended warranty claims along with Chysler and Land Rover

You want REAL performance car you build it yourself, my buddy's Cobra we built slaps the hell out of any German car that comes along at Steamboat and Second Creek and in the stright line at Bandi also. The only things to beat it so far have been other built Iron.

Wow........Lots of stupid ass comments here, and I can guarantee they're from uninformed people who've neither owned, nor driven an Fbody.....

First of all......Not a true sports car? How the hell can you justify that comment.......Very sporty body, how can you say its not?........300hp+ to the rear wheels in a 3600lb (dry weight) vehicle, that's not true performance?! 346 cubic inches, 5.7 liters of road burning hell.......You call that non sporty!? What the hell are YOU thinking?!

Vortex, have you owned an fbody? They're VERY reliable, there's tons of fbodies with over 100k miles on them running in tip top shape.....Sure, you give an fbody to some punk ass teenager who doesn't take care of it, of course it's not gonna last......It's a machine, without proper maintenence, they break down........Several people don't believe me when i tell them my T/A is a '98.......It still looks brand new! And if you think my 98 t/a is ugly, you're apparently very blind....

Turning radius of an SUV? HAh...you must've never driven an fbody.........Tons of people AutoCross these cars very succesfully.....

I guess I'll keep my car comments over at LS1.com forums where the guys enjoy the true beauty of the F-Body and the LS1......You guys are stuck at your computers all day ;)

hee hee......

Thanks for the comments tho.....

actually, i have driven an ss camaro. AUTOCROSS? what, one designed for boats on wheels?

YOU must've never driven a car that's made more for finesse than for straightline power. you mention the 300hp+. out of what, a 5.7L? nissan got 290hp out of a 3.5L. bmw got 333hp out of the 3.2L in the m3, and that thing will SPANK the 2003 cobra and 2002 ss camaro around a road course.

perhaps you can tell me why you never see these "great machines" doing rally sports? sure, they tear sh!t up going straight, but once you have to go left and right...

BTW - my sister owns a camaro - and I have driven it many times. I prefer my Nissan, though :)

Yes, I will miss the way the trunklid/spoiler lines up with the rear fenders. Have yet to see one that was centered properly.

I will miss them. I have owned and driven several Camaros and Firebirds. I suppose the much more $expensive$ Porsche or BMW's may out run them , how about spend a few grand on a new Ram Air and then try 'em out. On another note , my sister just bought a Ford Lightning , the d@mn thing is pretty sweet !

I will miss them.

Once I feel comfortable driving again I want to buy a Z28 or a SS Camaro.

A nice black one.

I will miss them too.

I had a '81 with a V6(got 150K mi out of it before the floor boards rusted through), but my wife just bought herself a '02 Z28.

They'll be back.
They have to come back.
Don't they?
In some form.
Right?

Oh god your ignorant.

F-Bodys are excellent Auto-X cars. If you actually had ever seen one or maybe even participated in one, you might know that. Of course, you'd also know that the F-Bod suspension is set up for daily driving, not road racing. Its funny how you bow down to the M3 when you should know that it requires 10 times the maintenence and twice the cash. I'd expect a lot more out of the car for that much money. And as far as comparing power goes, heh... you can take a M3 and rework the entire motor to gain maybe an additional 200 horses, or do the same to the LS1 and create one of the most powerful motors mountable in a car chassis. Oh, and watch out, your precious M3 might throw a rod in the process.

And drop the rally bit. I swear to god, all the wannabe net racers talk about how the WRX and Lancer Evo's are such great cars because they're a rally platform. Rally is cool, but its an EXTREME. Do you drive your car in the dirt around hairpins while drifting? NO. Different cars, different purposes. Do you see WRX STi Rally Editions running road races? NO.

I will miss the F-Body. I'll miss seeing new ones tear the living sh!t out everything at the drag. I'll miss seeing them turn in better times than other "balanced and refined" german roadsters at Auto-X. You're not alone x3ro
