They sound a helluva lot better than those damn crotch rockets. "Wheee! Let's ride around on a loud weed-eater!"

And as a point of fact, Harleys are not that loud from the factory. The loud ones have been modified to make them that way. Not the bike's fault, not the company's fault.

I've got nothing against "crotch rockets" in and of themselves, everyone has the right to ride what they please. But they definitely sound far worse than Harleys.

I hate it. In the middle of nowhere you can be as loud as you want. Down a densely settled street at night = KILL. The muffler modification laws have to be enforced.

I have about 5 neighbors all around me who own crotch rockets, who lo-o-ove to rev those freaking things up as high as they'll go whenever they leave for work in the morning. I can hear these retards still revving it up for a few blocks away on some mornings. I especially love the guy who launches himself through his driveway, across my neighbors yard, driveway, yard, MY yard, MY driveway, then MY yard, and then onto the street. :|

I sort of like the way all engines sound, single, parallel twin, offset crank V-twin, triples, fours, etc.

What I don't like are guys like I saw last night, middle aged white guy on a modded sport bike with some poor woman on the back, revving the engine between each shift, double clutching & riding just on the edge of out of control across a busy intersection. I've seen pre teens ride mini bikes smoother & in a heck of a lot better control.

It's annoying that the people who ride them generally aren't able to comprehend the fact that not everyone wants their teeth rattled by it (nor are many able to tie their own shoes in the morning, or count to ten, etc.). A few years back in Daytona for spring break, some mental midget decided he should wake up everyone in the hotel by having his harley idle for about a half hour at 7am. The hotel was shaped like a big U, with the beach at the top of it - he was on the inner right side, and basically woke up everyone. The parking lot was on the outside; this absolute genius had decided to bring the thing into the hotel's courtyard.

I also hate the sounds of harleys, fart cannons on rice burner cars or loud exhaust on some pos truck. People that need attention like this are all losers in my eyes.

I think they sound like a wet fart. I've never been a fan of Harley-type bikes, although I can appreciate a truly outstanding custom built bike, regardless of type. It seems most of the hand-built bikes are along the lines of a Harley, where most crotch rockets are of the off-the-line, cookie-cutter variety. I actually really do like the way a crotch rocket sounds at WOT....kind of Ferrari-esque, IMO. :) That said, I'd take a crotch rocket over a Harley any day of the week.

about 3 years ago i paintballed a guy and his harley
it was 4am, i had just gone to bed

i lived in a big apartment complex (5 buildings, in a U pattern around a big parking lot
he was in the middle of the parking lot, i was on the 3rd floor

he kept revving it up and cracking it, after 25 minutes i noticed A LOT of lights on, and a lot of people looking out their windows
i loaded up the old spyder and had about 15 balls spattered on him and his bike within seconds

he shut off the bike and spent about 10 minutes looking at the paint and walking around the buildings looking for the shooter
then he left (loudly)

That's sweet - he had to be pissed!

The only bikes I can't stand are the one driven by retards that think redlining it constantly is good idea. Morons, no one wants to hear you act like a dick.

Harleys sound good with pretty much anything other than stock mufflers, but drag pipes SUCK, and they perform like dookie.

Ducatis will always sound the best. Kind of like a Harley in tune.

My Speed Triple has a nice sound as well - sort of splits the difference between a twin's rumble and a four's growl.

I owned a Honda 650 XLR, and I've ridden a friends Harley several times. In the 6 months that I owned the Honda, I was almost run over 3 times. Because the bike was so small in comparison with the Harley and because no one could hear it, other drivers just assume no one is around and switch lanes. I've never had that problem riding the Harley. People always know you are around because they can hear you. Yea, I don't like loud bikes either, but as far as safety is concerned, I'd rather ride one. Plus, I don't know, there is just something about riding a Harley that makes you feel good.

Move to the sticks and it is quiet.
