Godfather is the answer to everything. It's 42. Every character in the film portays a certain type of person: There those who are strong, those who are weak, those you can trust and those you cant. By watching, studying and understanding the way the characters interact you can apply what you learn to real life. You can label certain people in real life as Tom Hagen the trustworthy, Michael the wise, Fredo the idiot who eventually WILL backstab you, Connie the willing victim, Sonny the angry and unpredictable, Hyman Roth the untrustworthy businessman with potential to either make you rich or ruin you... etc etc etc.
Thats my take on it. I want to be a Michael or a Tom, but if I am honest with myself then I know I am a Fredo, and I now try everything I can to NOT be a Fredo.
Is part of the reason Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy went over so badly.I can see why people would complain about the pace of the Godfather films; they're from a different era, and they are a lot slower than modern films. That doesn't stop me from forming an opinion about the mental acuity of someone who is unable to stay invested in a story if things aren't exploding every 12 seconds. But that's fine. Some people like chess, some people like checkers; people who don't like the Godfather like that game where someone jingles keys in front of their face.
Try Tyler Perry movies then.
Please, even I'm smarter than that! Even to those without two brain cells to rub together those movies are dumb.

I actually enjoyed it and still rewatch now and then.
It's something you have to be patient and get into.I need to watch that one again...I actually own it, but only time I watched it I was a few beers in and had no idea what the fuck was going on.
But yet he continues to make movies and make money, what does that say? :hmm:
Good analysis. But Michael paid a heavy price for all that he achieved. All the people he lost, alienated, all that he did. How it changed him, how it destroyed his innocence. The final scene of Godfather 2 where he is sitting by himself, reminiscing, contemplating, is arguably the best ending scene of any Hollywood movie. It resonates with a very basic human condition, the sense of loss we feel....

Which is the fate of so many in the modern world. That is what good art does. Asks us questions. Hold a mirror to usThe ending to Godfather II really moved me. Michael gained fortune and respect but lost his innocence. He was also lonely. He lost his family. His father, Fredo, Tessio, and Sonny were dead. His wife left him. Tom distrusted him.

Goodfellas is just another of your typical mob movie.
it insists upon itself
Never seen them. They may be incredible movies, but I have less than zero interest in anything mafia related (or westerns) and that has prevented me from watching them.
Can you believe I have never seen the movies? LOL I only watched part of Casino and I did see Goodfellas.
nopeAnd the first is better than the second.
Oh, I knowAnyone who says otherwise just doesn't know.
yep.Just like Alien is better than Aliens.
