Who does online banking?

Where at? and what are the benefits? i was thinking of opening an online checking and savings account somewhere.

easier to enter some numbers on the computer rather than write checks, put on stamps, etc.

I like the ability to schedule payments in advance so I only have to look at a bill once.

I use it all the time, I can't seem to remember getting the envelope to the mailbox... this saves me the hassle...

I have since 1998, it's awesome.

I never look at my checking account statements (don't even open them, just file them).

My account info is always up to date and current online.

I have online banking through my bank and my credit union.

I use Bank of America, and I do all my bill paying/transfers online. It's great, and really a lot less hassle. I know it's not a difficult process, but writing out checks and addressing envelopes and buying stamps was just tiresome. I pay all my bills online now, and it's just too easy. I wish I didn't have to pay them, of course, but this does take the edge off 😉

I use NetBank.

I've used them for three years now with no complaints. I get free bill pay, good interest rates for my checking and money market accounts, VISA debit card, and have not had any problems with them.

bankone is exceptional imo, particularly if you need a b&m associated with it (as opposed to internet only banks that pay higher interest rates).

I never have errors and they keep enhancing it, latest add on is that you can see an image of the cleared check now.

ditto.

Since 1997 I have been using First Union, who has now merged with Wachovia. They offered and still do offer a complete line of financial options. From checking to brokerage to CAP to you name it. . .

www.wachovia.com would be a good place to start looking.

I don't do Bill Pay thru my bank online because it has a monthly fee. If you go to the particular service (electric, cable, verizon, etc.) and do online bill pay that way, it's free. An extra step, but better than throwing away $5 a month. Doesn't take that much more effort actually... if you're organized.

Even though NetBank offers free bill pay, I don't like the fact that it's online-only like ING. Makes for depositing money a hassle... checks thru US Mail and online transactions cost money thru other banks.

It has actually been pretty convienent for me. If I ever need cash I get it at the grocery store when I'm checking out or at a Publix Supermarket where they have ATM machines with no service charges. Deposits can be mailed in with the use of envelopes that NetBank provides (no stamps). I don't have to deal with that since I work about 10 minutes away from the main NetBank office in Atlanta. I just go there and do a deposit into an ATM machine.

Not that this is something I fear will happen... but what happens when your check being mailed to NetBank gets lost ? Makes for quite a hassle wouldn't it ? That's the same reason I don't deposit checks into ATM machines... though I've done it once with no problems. Call me paranoid.

<shrugs> at paranoid. J/K. Seriously, I've deposited checks into ATMs for 10 years now and have mailed in checks to NetBank for the past 3 years. Never had a problem.

One of the best ways to ensure that a check can't be misused is to write "For Deposit Only, Account #: XXXXXXXXXX" instead of signing your name on the back.

How safe is it?

Very safe depending on your bank, your internet connection (are you using wireless internet or using a public computer?), and most importantly your web browser.

My bank offers a 100% guarantee on online banking so if my account were to be hacked (which it hasn't) I would get everything back.

Here are 193 bank reviews including my bank.
