I can't think of any actor that has so many abilities to play every character...hes done the love story, the mob, the cop, the military, the stranded on the island, the gay man with aids, acting as a little kid, as well as mentally challenged.
Its no wonder that hes one of the greatest actors this century, he plays every single character and he does it amazingly well.

I also like Paul Newman and Robert Redford.
Tom Hanks is a good candidate, but I think he slips from my mind because his name now seems to forever bonded to Steven Spielberg and honestly I'm getting tired of his face and voice, but he is very versatile when I think of him.

Ewan McGregor has done many drastically different roles.

There's very few females on the list so I'll toss in Cameron Diaz (think "Being John Malkovich"), Jodie Foster, Jamie Lee Curtis and Susan Sarandon.

iamme, did you see Death to Smoochy and Fight Club?? Edward Norton played two different roles there, he is pretty versatile.
