Football players thank God when scoring a touchdown. They get it. Government is your God now and you must thank it.

edit: on a more serious note, maybe Obama should have gone more along the lines of WE all built it together, as Americans, instead of like saying the government did it, because the government didn't do shit.

It isn't God and we needn't thank it. Indeed, the only reason the government's role in anything needs pointing out is that some people seem to think that government does little to nothing of value. If there weren't so many who harbored that mistaken belief, and who constantly expressed it, there wouldn't be a need to make such simple and obvious points, over and over again.

Obama's statement was rather bland and factual. If anything, I would accuse him of stating the overly obvious. It's why anyone feels that statements like this must be made that is more troubling.

To bad Obama plagiarized that speech and didn't give credit to its original author. Elizabeth Warren made that speech 9 months ago, and of course obongo who has no real ideas of his own has to steal it and present it as his own. Its no wonder the guy is a lousy President..

You apparently aren't smart enough to come up with your evidence, so I'm not sure what your point its. Its likely you lack the education to come up with one, so you simply parrot racist rightwing talking points.

Seriously, obongo. You used that term. Go back to your trailer.

Obama's problem is he has others explain why he never makes mistakes, you simply do not understand him because you are so lame. He should have simply admitted he messed up and did not mean what he said.

That would be easier than getting Republicans to think for themselves. GOP: Gratuitous Outrage Party.

In nearly all cases in the United States business owners do not build their businesses all on their own. Period. Full stop. End of story.

No one has argued business owners don't have skin in the game, and the idea that because people pay taxes that the government didn't have a hand in something is frankly nonsensical. The government is a vehicle for collective action by people and businesses, so to say that it didn't do something because it was acting with tax money from those people and businesses is simply to define the word government out of existence.
Except that Obama's gist was that government helped you, so you owe it. That totally discounts that any help given by government comes from the same people he now thinks owes it for that help. It's like giving a bum five bucks, then having him hand back a dollar and declaring that you owe him.

Obama didn't make a mistake. He's re-explaining the context of his speech because right-wing talking heads—desperate to find something, anything, that will tarnish Obama's image—have stripped out a sentence from his speech, taken it completely out of context, and are now attacking him for saying something that he didn't at all mean. In academic circles, we call this a "straw man argument."

I can take your words out of context, too. Here's an example:
... you are so lame.

Why do you have to resort to such childish insults? Your position must have absolutely no merit, and your use of a such antiquated slang shows that your opinions are out of touch with the needs of modern society.

(See what I did there?)

This manufactured controversy is almost as bad as the birther bullshit. Obama has done all sorts of things that should infuriate conservatives; if this is the best attack the Right can come up with, Obama will sail right into a second term.

It's not new with Elizabeth Warren either, so why would Obama give credit to someone who was also simply repeating the fundamental pro government argument for the last 50 years?

The original point is beyond silly. Presidents dont have time to write their own speeches.

First, it should be in ATOT.

Second, many are upset because this is an obvious you didn't build that thread. It's stupid and below us to have the original you didn't build that thread, and this is just more moronic bullshit.

That person knows exactly how to quote people out of context to twist the meaning of their words...

He was the one who seen a oputurnity. he was the one who started it adn helped drive it.

The government gave him a chance (and gave millions of others the same chance and they failed)
