for a bit of education here, right and left does not refer to republican, democrat, or any other political party. i'm sure we can agree on that.

what's typically defined as the "left" side of the spectrum is progressivism, socialism, fascism, etc. anyone that feels that they should decide what's "best" for someone else sits on the "left" to varying degrees. this includes teddy roosevelt, woodrow wilson, FDR, and most 20th-21st century US presidents along with hitler, stalin, mussolini all to varying degrees. the different "isms" are just different ways of getting the same thing. control over others.

on the "right" side of the spectrum is liberty, freedom, even anarchy. the extreme is a total lack of government and law.

most racists fall to the left. the view on the right doesn't care who you are, what color you are, or what you do as long as you don't bother me.

Well, there you have it, the right wing believes in freedom and the left wing hates freedom 😉

Unfortunately, the real world isn't as simple as you're making it out to be there.

So what you're saying is you're so far to the right you make david duke look like ralph nader.

actually, david duke is really pretty far to the left. penn jillette would be an example of extreme right. that guy is so libertarian that even i'm to his left.

How did you decide that was a good idea to post that?

Oh dear god, you are digging yourself a hole here.

Yes, the 'right' who loves unecessary war, war profiteering, secret prisons, torture, spying on citizens, legislating our bedroom, anti-immigration, preventing gays from marrying 'loves' 'freedom'.

Man you're a riot :laugh:

I hate him and admire him at the same time. I completely oppose his views and how he forces it upon his guests (that disagree with him). The way he argues is so asinine but effective. I try to debate in a logical fashion but he comes back with some off the wall stuff and in a way you don't expect so you are so confused. For example: look at the recent interview he did with the (former) military officer and the head of some (human rights?) organization. The topic was waterboarding and he asked something like "Sir, if you found out that waterboarding helped prevent a major attack that would have killed Americans, wouldn't you say it's justified?" (This is of course assuming Cheney is correct. He also said it after the fact). The guy was like "Uhh I can't say. I mean that's a hypothetical situation." O'Reilly immediately jumps on him and goes "NO! YOU STOP RIGHT THERE! IT'S NOT HYPOTHETICAL! IT HAPPENED!"

What an ass.

don't even tell me GWB was on the right. far from it. republican != "right wing".

certainly not the things that matter.

So an admitted ex-drug addict writes kid books but when someone he doesn't like wants to do something good and they have made mistakes in their life too, he shuts them down and doesn't even give them a chance to talk. It doesn't matter what party you're for, this guy is a douche. Only he is right no matter what you say. People shut him down on his own show and he resorts to pitty name calling. This needs to go to P&N.

O'reily is really good at setting up strawman arguments then just keeps yelling at his guests to prevent them from responding. hardly a debate

Except that it's wrong. Or at least highly inaccurate.
I don't know why I'm saying this to YOU, because I know nothing is going to change your mind 😉

HE's got a distorted worldview, that's for sure. Including FDR in the same sentence as stalin and then implying that they're from the same "spectrum" is just fundamentally flawed. His view of left and right certianly has no fundamentals, just his own cockadoodle. Breaking things down into "control over others" and "liberty, freedom, even anarchy" is highly simplistic to say the least.

sorry, but fascism and socialism do not mix, AT ALL.

if you want to look at the extremes,

right = Hitler
left = Stalin.

I'm honestly not sure which is worse.

He's alright I guess. Watching him is fine IMO. If you start believing him, you're doing something wrong. Those "talking points" that he throws out like they're facts? Yeah, those are his "opinions"; nothing more, nothing less.

Wow. Might want to do a bit more reading there. Fascism is as far "right" as it gets - the polar opposite of communism (far left).

And anyways, there is more than one spectrum. The political spectrum covers social and economic measures. It is possible to be socially conservative but economically liberal (and vice versa).

What else could he say? McCain wouldn't have kept up with that kind of criticism. I'm no fan of Obama but anyone could see that he was a match for O'Reilly.
