I just had a weekend away rafting. One of the most fun things I've done in ages and tiring too....and I only fell in twice.

Anybody else been rafting and want to share tips if I go again.

Where did you go? I've been wanting to go for a long time but haven't arranged it yet.

I went just about a month ago on one of the better sections of the French Broad (here in NC). Was a blast. And we've had so much rain this season that the guides were saying the rafting was the best they've ever seen.

Did you go with a random group or your own group?

I've been twice. In Cairns in Australia and in Costa Rica. No real tips as I went with a group of randoms but the instructors were always a lot of fun and everyone worked.

I went to American River whitewater rafting. The biggest tip I have is wear lots of sunscreen even if you typically don't burn. Keep your mouth closed even during the rough parts.

That's about it.

None of us fell in on accident, we went in to keep cool.

I was on the river Trishuli, which at the end of the monsoon season was quite high. As it was explained that meant quite fast water, but tamer white water as the level is much higher than the obstructions in the water.

I picked up on the sun cream tip already. I kept it with me even after falling out.

Make sure that you're always in a paddle raft, it is MUCH more fun if you're part of the action rather than part of the scenery.

Make sure your paddle stroke uses your back, not your arms. And do EXACTLY what the guide says!

Try a ducky at some point.

Save up your money (~$3k) and raft the Grand Canyon, it's TOTALLY worth it. Do the whole Canyon (14 days).

I rode the Futalufu in Chile a few years back with Earth River.

BEST VACATION EVER!
