White powder sent to Mormon temples in Utah, LA

Interesting to see the left complain about the lack of tolerance the Mormon Church and other Prop 8 supporters possess, but then they go ahead and negate their entire argument by pulling yet another intolerant stunt like this.

LOS ANGELES ? Letters containing a suspicious white powder were sent Thursday to Mormon temples in Los Angeles and Salt Lake City that were the sites of protests against the church's support of California's gay marriage ban.

The temple in the Westwood area of Los Angeles was evacuated before a hazardous materials crew determined the envelope's contents were not toxic, said FBI spokesman Jason Pack.

The temple in downtown Salt Lake City, where the church is based, received a similar envelope containing a white powder that spilled onto a clerk's hand.

The room was decontaminated and the envelope taken by the FBI for testing. The clerk showed no signs of illness, but the scare shut down a building at Temple Square for more than an hour, said Scott Freitag, a spokesman for the Salt Lake City Fire Department.
None of the writing on the envelope was threatening, and the church received no calls or messages related to the package, Freitag said.

Protests in recent days have targeted the Mormon church, which encouraged its members to fight the recently passed amendment banning gay marriage in California.

Authorities are looking into several theories on who sent the letters and why, Pack said.
Anthrax mailed as a white powder to Washington lawmakers and media outlets killed five people and sickened 17 just weeks after the attacks of September 11, 2001. Periodic hoaxes modeled on the anthrax mailings have popped up since then but usually prove harmless.

Sad to see, but your whole "Tolerance" angle is rather ridiculous. Mormon Church was Intolerant, now it Reaps what it Sows.

So as long as someone is intolerant first, that opens the flood gates?

Interesting....

Did you not read all the comments in the first "tol/llerance" thread you started about how the actions of a few people != tens of thousands of peaceful protestors? Almost half the country is pro-life, I don't think most of them would blow up an abortion clinic. Get some freakin perspective.

Your use of pronouns is infantile.

They don't negate any argument, hate begets hate.

Oh and BTW, the LDS might not be such a joke if they stopped pulling bullshit like baptizing dead jews from the holocaust into the church.

Oh yeah that and the plates thing.

Not at all, but as Jesus said, "Do unto others....". It is a long held piece of Wisdom, taught by most Religions and as a Religious organization they should have seen it coming.

I suppose you feel that only the First Intolerant has the Right to Intolerance?

Interesting....

First off, I don't think anyone is condoning a stupid act like that. As it's been said before, the actions of a few do not represent the beliefs of the many.

However.

If I understand the crazier "Jesus-Horse" conervatives around here, the gay community should be "tolerating" the Mormon church for actively trying to repress them, is that correct?

Pretty much, "I cannot stand your lack of tolerance for my intolerance".

But it's a religiously based kind of hate, so therefore it's immune from criticism.

Hey Corbett, where do you live?

Why?

Why? Just curious. I'll bet if we had five guesses though, we could probably figure it out.

Also, how much joy do you take in posting these threads? You must be a very, very bitter and angry person.

I feel everyone has an individual right to intolerance, but not to the extent of violence, threats, etc. "We" as a collective, do not have the right to intolerance at any level. However, the Morman church didnt break any laws by funding a proposition.

As fun as it is to pick on Mormons, stories like these cross the line.

How would you feel if the crazies started sending abortion doctors white powder? Those people could say that the doctors are intolerant of thier pro-life views, so they deserve it.

I think the better question is: Why are there only 1 or 2 people on this message board that would post this article?

Back in the 70's I use to get White Powder in the mail all the time. Of course i never considered reporting it to the authorities.

Much worse has happened to them, and your recent pick for VP wouldn't classify people who bomb abortion clinics as terrorists.

Also, in what way does an abortion doctor affect the life of someone who's pro-choice? DO they force abortions on people?

The answer is none, whereas the LDS and their allies have in fact sought to impact the lives of roughly 10% of Americans in a direct and negative way.

No one should be sending "White Powder" to anyone. It is the whole "Intolerance" angle that is ridiculous in this discussion.

I agree with the intent of your post...but you contradict yourself in it.

You say that "We" as a collective, do not have the right to intolerance and then turn around and say that the church (part of "We") and everyone else that funded the support of prop 8 has the right to be intolerant.

Whether or not they broke a law is irrelevant to deciding whether or not their actions are just. It only makes one a legal form or intolerance compared to an illegal. Both are wrong.

You're welcome to take 5 guesses. I'd love that.

And no, I'm not bitter or angry, I actually have a GREAT life. I just try to balance out all the threads we have here that say how intolerant and hateful those who supported Prop 8 are.
