Lemme see if I understand this.

Bills originate in the House, but they can't pass anything.

Filibusters apply to the Senate, not the House.

The Repubs don't actually have enough seats in the Senate to fillibusters.

But the Dems haven't passed anything in either the House or the Senate because of the (fictional) Repubs fillibuster?

Bwuhahahaha

Fern

What are you babbling about? The Democrats haven't tried to vote on a bill in the House yet, they most certainly haven't failed in any way, shape, or form. To say that they are 'unable' to pass a bill there is laughably false and you know it.

The Senate on the other hand may end up being 'unable' to pass a bill with a public option, but it most certainly would be due to a Republican filibuster on the issue. There are nearly certainly Democrats that would not vote for cloture, but who would never try and mount a filibuster of their own party's legislation. So yes, they would be unable to pass the bill because of a Republican filibuster. Do you really think the GOP would hesitate for a second to filibuster a bill with a public option? That would be incredibly naive of you.

As I said to our good friend RyanPaulShaffer, parties do not vote in tandem with one another in America. If this isn't civics 101, it's civics 201 at best. The most likely scenario is a public option bill from the House, and one without it from the Senate.

Any Dem not trying to break the filibuster via cloture would be exposed as basically voting with the Republicans. Perhaps the Dem leadership know this and realize it would potentially cost them seats down the road.

I've never heard of a public insurance company being the Democratic Party's flagship issue.

What is their "flagship issue"?

Ending the Iraq/Afghan war? I'm reminded of when they took control of Congress, yet Pelosi and Reid did nothing on that issue either. What was the excuse? GWB might veto it (even though you can't veto a Congressional refusal to funding).

Ending FISA etc? How's that working out?

Closing GITMO? Zip here too. Nothing but backpedaling.

The pattern is clear, the Dem leaders talk "game" to the hardcore at election time then do nothing of the sort becuse their policies aren't as popular as some claim. And this becomes clear as soon as we move past those bogus "all candy and no cost' type polls people like to quote in support of their policies.

Fern

Don't sign your posts dumbass we know who it was

Well damn I guess Fern hit a nerve.

I think people would realize that most of the "problems" could be resolved individually instead of having the gov't take over a slice(which inevitably would become bigger). Seriously - there isn't a major problem with our system that couldn't be made better by addressing them individually.

Given that the republicans have managed to piss off two different countries with their constant lies about their health systems, I'd say without the propaganda it would be well considered, yes.

Sarah Palin. And the "liberal" media ran with it, gave it legitimacy, and of course didn't do their fucking job and point out how utterly stupid this was.

Ah yes. I forgot Democrats dont say stupid things. Stuff like "It's a new day. Communism is dead. It's even dead in Cuba. I hate to say it, it's dead." - Barbara Boxer...or
"I was embarrassed to wear it." - Senator Diane Feinstein on wearing an American flag pin....or how about "...even with people like Osama, who is very likely to be found guilty, we should do our best not to, in positions of executive power, not to prejudge jury trials," - Howard Dean to the Concord Monitor in December 2003.....

Theres no shortage.

One of the biggest problems with "Obamacare" is that it isn't; the Obama administration learned the wrong lesson from the demise of "Hillarycare".

Rather than propose a framework then work with both Houses of Congress to shape it into something usable, this administration gave the Democratic Congressional "Leadership" a vague outline and essentially said "Put together something that can pass". They are now reaping an abomination of a "Plan" cobbled together from the porcine aspirations of 314 Representatives and Senators kowtowing to the AARP, AMA and Pharma. Abdicating control of Health Care legislation to the Congressional Democrats' alleged Leadership gives us a Health Reform and Savings plan that neither Reforms nor Saves.

Take this clusterfuck of a "Reform Plan" and have some of the few admirable aspects misrepresented and demonized by the Opposition and you have what we see before us now. Unfortunately, I don't think the Obama administration has the nerve to say "this isn't working" and reboot the whole process, and I'm certain the Congressional Democrats lack the will to unseat their "Leaders" and replace Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid with new blood that can actually accomplish something in those seats.

You are exactly right. The problem is Obama is not a real leader and has never been one. He did the same thing with porkulus and cap/tax. He let the idiots in congress screw things up. If Obama would of presented a bill with what he campaigned on it would of been passed by now. They should of focused on controlling costs and pre-existing conditions like he campaigned on. Instead he let the far left wing change it into a government take over of healthcare costing trillions.

So you are saying that if Obama sent a single payer uhc bill to congress it would of been passed by now? I would argue that the defeat would of been certain as these interests were not about to be pushed to the sidelines. This is just the beginning for the industry. If they won the no public option angle they will move on and try to stop all change of their industry. The longer things sit in limbo the longer they have to attack, lobby and misinform the public.

And if its a worthwhile plan, the more time to educate the public. You know, in the name of transparency. If they have to rush it its because its flawed and they want to pull a fast one on the public.

Please define "hick."

Not a definition, but a picture.
I dress up for the Ren-fest every year, does that make me a "hick"?! So much for liberal acceptance of those who might be different from you, eh?

He campaigned on costs costs costs and pre-existing conditions. He did not say a peep about UHC during the campaign. Only this congress could screw it up this much. The average person cares about 2 things cost and pre-existing conditions. The average person does not want to spend a few trillion to cover 20 million people.

lol.. inferior, or not, that blonde viking wench on the far left of the photo makes me want to add this to my list of festivals. :)

On a more serious note, Craig's and Shadow's bigotry is simply despicable.

When used to describe women in trashy renaissance garb, or in this case viking garb, "wench" is a perfectly acceptable anachronistic term.

But, you knew that already, right?

I'm going to miss the Ren-fest this year, and all the beautiful wenches who serve me my ale there, so that photo and these posts are just making me homesick. damnit. :(

I remember him stating very often that he promised universal health care or a single payer system. Otherwise you're exactly right.

If Obama, Clinton, or any other Democrat were in the picture rather than Palin, Craig would probably be praising it as them "connecting with the common person." That is the kind of fickle, partisan buffoon he is.

Goverment owned or government controlled co-ops whats the difference? Not much!
As long as the rules and priciples stay the same I think its a great comprimise.

But you can bet the repub's will try and derail the underlying principles of the co-op's, so it's anybodys guess what the final house and senate bills will look like. If I where a betting man I would bet that the repubs in the senate will never agree to a comprise bill, and we will get something resembling the house bill passed with less that 60 votes in the senate.
