guy, im not sure what you are protecting but i would keep the smart-ups. its a different class of ups which has power conditioning. if its old, buy a replacement battery.

After I drove back 80 miles I wondered the same thing. However there are one of two possible outcomes:

1) There is no problem (My guess and hope)

2) Two of the rebates are rejected in which instance I give them the chance to make things right. If that fails, I take them back and stand at the front counter until I get a refund (or carted off to the pokey) ;-)

"but i would keep the smart-ups. its a different class of ups "

I would wholeheartedly agree

Well, I ended up getting 2 (at different stores), getting the $10 off $50 on each (after a little tussle over whether a UPS should count as technology), and with Worklife (will have to see what happens with that...). I tried to use the $20 off $45 that I got with the first UPS on the second, but it isn't good until 2/25 🙁. Assuming the rebates go through, this will end up have been cheaper than replacing the batteries in the 700VA UPSs that these will replace...

I guess in the end if I have to do a sit in and it doesn't work I was willing to pay $99 each during last weeks deal, so I guess it is not the end of the world. ;-)

I'm happy, I just got one of these bad boys after missing out on the $99 deal last week. I guess sometimes things work out for the best, after all.

The $50 rebate printed out, but the $10 off $50 coupon that printed is only good starting March 1st, so I passed on getting a second unit (though I probably should anyway and just have the rebate sent to a friends house).

Unit is much smaller than I was expecting from everything you guys have been saying. It's only about 3 inches wide and 16 inches tall.

All hail the OP!

Vince

wow, definitely pick this up on the way home. i've even got a check out coupon in the car, hope it works on tech.

the online inventory checking sucked for me. said my local store had none yesterday, stopped in after work and they had 3 sitting there. 😀

Cashier didn't want to take mine - I said a UPS isn't tech, it's just a fancy extension cord. I don't think she really bought that, but she gave it to me anyway, maybe just to make me go away🙂

Master BS'er you are 😛

I scored one in Las Vegas, they weren't in the the normal UPS section, but were near the desk furniture and no indication of a sale. Almost like they didn't want you to know.

XS series Model BX1500

The rebate receipt printed at the register. $57 after rebate....pretty gosh darn hot....

It said that online for the Vegas area too, but low and behold, they were there. I think calling the store may be a better route to check....

Jessica Alba hot! In for 3 thanx OP! Now I just gotta make sure I beat those additional rebate checks out of my cousins (they prolly won't want to give them up that easy 🙂 ).

Stopped by my local OD in Gresham, OR and they were all out, but the CSR went on his computer and checked for inventory in my area and found a store that had 3 of them about 10 miles away in Portland, OR. Picked them all up. Living in semi rural area we experience a lot of power outages in winter storms. One of these will replace my 2 year old APC 725VA, another one will be for my 42" plasma, dvd player, xbox, gamecube setup. And third one will go downstairs in a living room.

I've been pretty happy with APC 725 in general. APC is pretty cool. You can hook these babies up to your computer via USB and once the power goes out and the battery drains itself it will automatically shut your pc down. All of these options are completely customisable through their utility. You can choose after how many minutes of power outage to shut down or untill say 2 minutes battery time left. Plus their utility keeps a log of all the outages and surges like overvolts, undervotls so you can see how many times it saved your PC from corruption. God knows I was getting sick of reinstalling windows. Also it will show battery charge and how many minutes of battery time you still have.

EDIT: The only thing this unit doesn't have over my older APC unit is cable connections.

Was reading the rebate form too, it mentions nothing about a UPC code. Rebate only calls for the rebate form and receipt.

that's what I see too... i wonder if i should send in a copy of the UPC code just to be on the safe side?

just picked one up, thanks op.

is this thing loud? i notice it has a fan, guess i'll find out later tonight when i plug it in.

Thanks. This post saved me $50 retroactively. I had bought one of these in the on net deal for $99.99 on the 8th. That was already a pretty good deal -- especially since my wife needed a replacement UPS. When this thread started this morning, I took my receipt and the box (not the UPS) back to the store where I had picked it up (store delivery of a net purchase). With no questions asked they allowed me to return it and then repurchase it so I had a new in store receipt and a printed out rebate form. What was a pretty good deal has turned into a really hot deal. Thanks again. If it hadn't been for this thread I would never have known about this.

Note added:
They also printed out a coupon good for $10 off any purchase of $50 or more in March. With any luck this could make the effective price of the UPS be only $40 -- depending on whether they have anything on a hot sale in March.

i have a question for those who got one, when connecting the internal battery in the first step, are you supposed to shove the connector all the way in? because it seems i can only get mine about 3/4 in and when i try to turn it on i get the "replace battery" light beeping. =(
