I was really surprised by some of the criticism floating around the Internet (such a friendly, reserved place normally) of Taylor Swift's new 'Shake It Off' music video:

The first time I heard the term & Googled it I read this:

Twerk
The rhythmic gyrating of the lower fleshy extremities in a lascivious manner with the intent to elicit sexual arousal or laughter in ones intended audience.

So I got the idea it was widely understood not to take it too seriously.
I can understand taking offense to Miley's use of twerking.. but Taylor seemed to go out of her way to not be racist in her video, having white girls twerk along with their dark-skinned sisters.
