When I say "White History" I'm not talking about American history.

The people had been lobbying to get a cultural studies of "African-American, Latino and Southeast Asian studies there". The protesters then said that a white person should not teach those subjects, because they would not have first hand knowledge. So the classes are subjectively not white, and thus a white teacher should not fit. So, if the school had a history for western Europeans, a black person would not be qualified to teach it as well. The 2nd statement is used to show the "other side" of the argument to show its stupidity, because the only qualification should be if the teacher is knowledgeable and able to get the students to learn. My qualification was never in question by the protesters.

Protesters want teachers that are the same "race" as the subject they are teaching.

Most graduates with a teaching degree have no reference to what it was like to live in the 1950's, much less what slavery was all about. I don't think it matters who the teacher is. Every year all you ever here is a black history parade and they keep replaying the "I have a dream" speech. That gets old really fast. How does that prepare people to live in the here and now? I think sometimes the goal of this is to perpetuate the racial divide and to create a new generation of people on the public dole.

Agree 101%. Bringing up someone's ethnicity as a job qualification is a net-negative PR stunt. Getting children the best qualified instructor is the goal of any educational institution regardless of the student body makeup.

The "I have a dream" speech by Dr. King contains lessons and ideas that are important for all people to live by and strive towards. That you see it as having an end goal of perpetuating a racial divide and creating a generation of people "on the dole" speaks volumes.

You modern progressives use the terms black and white not to define skin color, but to define us culturally.

My opinion is that we shouldn't be dividing these lines between ourselves. We are all the same, and should treat each other equally rather than look for excuses to ask for special treatment.


You and the rest of the race brigaiders constantly look for ways to divide people - trying to figure out what makes us different, and how you can profit or take advantage of the perceived differences. You all use the terms "white" and "black" as a way to define cultures, which I think is a shame and incredibly racist. Medium ivory people can follow "black" culture. Skin color is a non-factor in regards to culture. I refuse to use the divisive terms of black and white, I think it's ridiculous and out of place in our post-cosby society.

I'm inclined to agree, but regardless of how race has been utterly politically perverted, there are races in fact. There ought be nothing wrong with calling an Asian person Asian, or a black person black, or a white person white. What is wrong is that we've become so hair-trigger sensitive to any perceived racial insensibility.

Somehow we got history confused with cultural studies, i guess? anyway, bolded inference from spungo isn't cogent, and it also doesn't follow deductively from what the protestors were saying.

There's no good reason to think that people who can think critically about racial fault lines cannot think critically in general. There's no good reason to think that this is what the protestors think, or that this is sensible inference to make from what was said.

Deductively, we can't get to the point that black people aren't qualified to teach classes that aren't african-american, latino or southeast asian studies based on what the protestors were saying either.

Crozier stated if white then not qualified. So we can also say, if qualified then not white. Stupid, but valid.

it seems spungo and waggy improperly negate the antecedent (if non-white then x - where does that come from? can't do that) or make improper inferences based on the statements made by the protestors.
