What was wrong with the old-fashioned, traditional ways of communicating, like cell phones or IRC?

What was wrong with the old-fashioned, traditional ways of communicating, like telephones and faxes?

What was wrong with the old-fashioned, traditional ways of communicating, like telegram?

What was wrong with the old-fashioned, traditional ways of communicating, like letter writing and face-to-face conversation?

What was wrong with the old-fashioned, traditional ways of communicating, like smoke signals?

Actually, there is nothing wrong with OP`s point.
Newsgroups, IRC all work fine as a social gathering point, but some web programmer always comes up with a new fad with bells, whistles, ads and spam ......and the world thinks they invented sliced bread.

I'm tired of people getting into "but, it's so great!" lecture mode when they ask me what my FB is and I tell them I don't have one. I understand what it is, so I don't need you to tell me thanks. And you're not going to change my mind, it's a stupid ass site. But for whatever reason it never fails these people feel the need to get me to using it, like my life's incomplete without it.

Twitter can stay simply because of the fact Shaq uses it.

E-Mail for things you don't need a reply to instantly, IRC if you need to chat with multiple people in real time, IM if you want to 1on1 chat. Social networking sites all are shat and provide nothing I can't do faster and easier another way.

Twitter I think I created an account a long time ago to see what it was, but I've never used it. Why would I want a ton of texts all day?!

Twitter is the Internet for the "like no waay" airhead community. Finally they can understand the Internet.

Airhead 1 twit: "Like I getting up now"

Airhead 2 twit: "Like totally"

Airhead 1 twit: "Now I'm eating breakfast"

Airhead 2 twit: "Don't eat too much or you will like get fat an such"

Airhead 1 twit: "Yeah totally"

Airhead 2 twit: "Ok it's like 4pm and its time for my afternoon martini"

Airhead 1 twit: "Oh fabulous let me join you"

Airhead 2 twit: "Wow do you see that really hot guy across the room"

Airhead 1 twit: "Yeah like he's ripped and such"

Ahem, sorry, I got a little carried away.

And yeah YTMND can go away too. They're nothing but a bunch of script kiddie teenagers. They used to keep attacking one of my forums until they realized their efforts were pointless against me. A couple SQL queries will delete spam off a forum in a matter of seconds no matter how many hundreds of posts there are.

Very much this. I just don't want to get texts all day. Not from friends or celebrities or whomever.....

Why? I can understand people disliking 4chan and other internet polluting sites... but facebook is self-contained. The only oddity on facebook I have ever seen is Vin Diesel. The guy gets 100 comments to anything he posts within the first minute, I kid you not. Both guys and girls saying how much they love him.

Same reason, though to a lesser extent, why people hate twitter and myspace. It's the internet dumbed down for the masses. It's like the internet mass marketed to trailer park hicks by wallmart. All your friends can message you any time any where, tell them every litte boring fact about every boring day of your life. Sorry that's not why I like the internet. To me the internet is about information, creativity, educating ones self, exploring, and some goofing off. I'm fine with blogs if they have some sort of interesting focus, even if it's wacky. The internet is and should be about researching the latest facts about the new iphone, reading up on zoology, physics, chemistry, and psycology. It's about learning how to do woodworking on your own, how to program, code web sites, how to use a telescope. It's about being able to see the most beautiful photography on earth in one moment, listening to your favourite music the next, and downloading porn the next. What the Internet should not be about is hearing about what Joe Blow down the street is listening to RIGHT NOW, what his vafourite movie is, how many books he's read and who his friends are. I don't care what Cletus had lat night for dinner and neither should anyone else. That's what email and real life is for (and I'm speaking as someone who doesn't have a life).
