Which web browsers and why?

firefox for anandtech and homework, tabbed browsing is easier to cycle between pages than multiple IE windows
IE as well since nearly half of the sites i go to dont work with firefox - mainly javascrpit induced login problems. sad thing is there are tons of sites till being managed and built only to comply with IE standards. actually the only thing i care about on firefox is tabbed browsing.

Because as of right now there is what, 3% of all internet users using it? Most of the rich dumb yuppies are using IE, do you think ad writers/viruses are going to write code specifically for 3% or 97% of internet users?

Yes I made the numbers up but I'm pretty sure that they are not above 20% of the market.

Besides couple of weeks ago they found holes and weaknesses in FF that IE was immune to. I'm not saying IE is better then FF, it's just jumping on the bandwagon when you can't even take care of your IE problems then you shouldn't be surfing the net.

firefox - good popup blocker, many virus executables don't run in it, tabbed browsing, themes, shortcut keys, extensions, and much more i can't think of off the top of my head

Your comment is kind of vague. Are you saying the people who write the viruses are mostly writing for IE? In that case FF is better.

If you're trying to say the anti-virus people are writing for IE then I would say they are only making programs to cover the holes that FF has already patched. And since you have said FF only covers 3% of the market, there is a good chance there wont be adware/viruses that target FF's specific weaknesses. And in this case, spybot and a good antivirus will take care of the generic ones

You're right FF is better because it is not targeted by writers, but that doesn't mean that it's safer. I'd rather people not sniff what I'm browsing.

Also in my 6 years that I've used IE, I've had pretty minor problems. One more thing is FF does not work with many sites I visit.

Also for FF's specific viruses, your AV won't protect you (at least not current ones) because they are executed by FF itself instead of a seperate executable. I don't know all the details because the article got real technical.

Those sites are probably broken. I haven't found one yet that doesn't work in FF/Mozilla/Camino/Konqueror/Safari that doesn't have a competitor that does.

I guess I'm one of the lucky bastages that SP2 worked for me without a hitch. Ran since the day it came out (I like taking risks ) just ran Spybot 3 days ago, 4 problems none of them involved with activeX :roll:

I guess I'm one of the lucky bastages that SP2 worked for me without a hitch. Ran since the day it came out (I like taking risks ) just ran Spybot 3 days ago, 4 problems none of them involved with activeX :roll:

i run spybot about once a week w/ opera and i haven't gotten anything in 5 months.

I'll be honest I haven't used FF, but people I know that use it had problems viewing certain webpages that I frequent had problems so that was (-)points from me.
