I think the problem with mace, even in checked luggage, is not the nature of the agent, but its propellant. Technically I don't think you can bring ANY aerosol can on a plane, so if she declares it they'll shoot her down.

Is there non-aerosol mace? I've never really shopped for anything like that stuff.

A fork, maybe?

Speaking of forks, who else is annoyed when they eat at a nice, full service restaurant in an airport and have to use plastic utensils?

heh... i know what you're talking about. But yeah, what if a bunch of terrorists storm the plane dual-wielding two plastic knives.

I have a knobed stick, but i don't call it a mace.

I don't think they want mace/pepper spray in checked luggage either. If the can didn't make it through the pressure changes, they would have a mess on their hands.

You can bring aerosol things in small quantities (the TSA lists personal care and toiletries). Obviously a normal can of hair spray is bigger then a thing of mace, so the aerosol probably isn't the problem.

Mace is also cheap enough that she could buy it there, if she can't take it.

The only weapons allowed onboard are obnoxious children and offensive body odour.
