Which weapons can a person legally bring on an airplane?

Family member is taking an extended trip for company training (3 weeks). She would like to bring mace or something on the trip but she is not sure if this will be allowed on the plane. Any ideas?

You can bring just about anything you like as long as it's in CHECKED baggage and you declare it when you check the bag.

Ammunition and other explosives are not allowed.

wtf? mace? Are you serious??? You can't bring a freaking nail file.... and you expect to bring mace?

You can bring a whole bag of nail files... just so long as you check the bag.

Hell, you can bring a hand gun if you want... just so long as it's unloaded and you check the bag (and declare it while checking it).

You might be able to get away with the pungent ass aroma bomb, but you might choke the pilots as well if that puppy ever goes off accidentally.

A fork, maybe?

Speaking of forks, who else is annoyed when they eat at a nice, full service restaurant in an airport and have to use plastic utensils?

As long as it is in checked luggage she should be okay. Best to call the airline. But hell the stuff is cheap why not just buy a small can when she gets where she is going.

you can take almost anything if it's packed right. guns, knives, etc. knives can be put in your luggage (mace, too, probably). guns have to be in locked cases.

The TSA has the list of permitted and prohibited stuff online

If you have to ask, chances are you should just check it in, in order to avoid the possible hassle.

Cool, you can bring transformer toys on board. I hope the terrorists don't go to town by pistol-whipping a pilot with an old school die-cast Megatron. Then if they do, hopefully the pilot has his old-school die-cast Optimus Prime to protect the aircraft.

You might be able to "check it" but not a carry on. We're talkin about a mace like a knobed stick?

i'll go out a limb on this one and assume that he isnt talking about the knobbed stick, but rather the pepper spray mace...anyhow, my grandfather couldnt even bring a nail clipper on the plane. of course, like other posters had stated, you can probably check it in.
