I currently have a 7800 GTX. For now I am using 8AF and 4x AA. Also do any of you know the differences between 4x, 4x 9 tap, and 4xS? I am curious which one is best? Also do you guys use transparency antialiasing?

4xAA 8xAF with most games, SLI 7800GT. CPU is the bottleneck but i'm not upgrading that until Socket (A)M2.

Still that's a nice system and your getting some nice FPS and image quality. I'm on a 3800 X2 @ 2.1 with 1 gig ram. Just want to find a sweet spot. Also I play all my games at 1680x1050 res (2005fpw) do I still have to use high AA/AF or does the high resolution smooth things out?

Depends on the game. In FarCry I jack up the AF. See no need to do so in Doom3, h3ll there's to look at the "far away". Its all closed in corridors.

I hate "jaggies' so I"ll use just enough AA to get rid of them. Seems to me with higher resolutions there's less need for AA. But I always run with at least a minimum of 2x.

you should get rid of the none option and make it ask what type you would use if you were using it at all because alot of people will vote for thier normal type even if they normally play with AA off.

4xAA, 16x AF in most cases, or whatever the game allows.
edit: 1280x960 res

For BF2 and CS:S, I use 4xAdaptive AA and 16x HQAF on my x1800xt at 1920x1200.
For FEAR, I use 2xAAA and 16HQAF at 1920x1200.

Wow you guys really use some high AF/AA at those high resolutions. Do you really need that much at such high res's? I thought I read somewhere that AA/FA is only beneficial with lower resolutions such as <1280x1024 but from what Im seeing here I am wrong.

If I can I run atleast 2xAA and 16X AF. I run at 1920x1200 but I still like to use AA cause there are still noticable jaggies.

1680x1050 is actually smaller than 1600x1200 and so should be above it in the poll if your order were to be maintained.

but 1680x1050 is cooler, so it deserves the higher ranking :)

Back OT... rig in sig...

settings: 4xAAA/16xHQAF @ 1680x1050, possible in all games smoothly I've tried thus far except FEAR MP. I imagine B&W2 and AOE3 wouldn't be possible either, but I have no intention of playing either.

I usually use 0x FSAA and 8x AF, at 1920x1200 resolution. I have 2 7800gtx cards in SLi along with an Opteron 175 at 2.7GHz. Framerate is key in Quake4 :p

That's awesome, how are those opterons anyways?

1280x1024 with 4AA and 16AF in the game i play the most, BF2 with all settings on high
With a X800GTO fireblade at 620/600

on the COD2 Demo i can get the same settings (1280, 4AA) except everything on medium and i don't know what my AF is running in that game

I don't like AA - my card can easily handle AA at 1280 x 1024, but I just don't like things blurried up. I'd rather see a few jaggies, and have textures crisp and clear. I do use 8x AF.

For WoW:

x850xt
1920x1200
4xAA, 8xAF

51.5 average FPS over an 8 hour play session.

Good enough for me!
