Something like this would be bare minimum IMHO:

Of course, you would also want to make sure that the room has proper light control otherwise the picture will be washed out. I think given your budget it will be hard to get a decent projector setup. I would stick with a flat panel. If you want big, find a used DLP TV.

Light isn't a problem and projectors seem to fit right in this setup to me

I'm looking into getting my mother a HDTV for her living room to replace her old Big Screen HDTV as a Christmas gift. I'm looking to stay below $550 as i have a lot of other gifts to get including a Blu-Ray HTIB to go with the tv. Which of these is best ? Thx in advance for any help
