Ive seen lots of negativity towards the LG plasma televisions. I do not have personal experience, but last year when searching for a new office TV I was warned by a few folks to avoid LG. I was pushed toward some samsung and panasonic alternatives, ended up with a samsung plasma and have been pretty happy with it despite the glaring screen.

I've got a 42" LG plasma that looks great in 2D and the 3D is breathtaking for a smaller display. Way too much bad information gets passed around about TV's these days. :\

Don't mind Glossy screens or screens that glare as she love to keep the living room dark so that won't be a problem

I do agree with you on that, I later was told how terrible my samsung was, and it would probably fail within six months. That was a year ago lol. I'm about 90% sure they are all equal to the non home theatre snob eye. I also believe many companies share common components.

I got the samsung 43" you linked from cyber monday for $380. It's a good tv and has many good reviews. You dont have to worry about burn in because the tv has a nice anti-burn in feature. Best bang for the buck IMO. The tv has about the same watts as the new lcd's so dont have to worry about it being hot like older plasma tv's. Also LCD/LED tv's are only more expensive because it costs more to make them compared to plasma.

CNet has a nice buying guide you should read.

I have a 50" 1080p Panasonic plasma that I really like.

Fry's has it on sale for $549, but it's in store pickup only :(

They tend to show up on sale pretty frequently, though. Perhaps you'll have better luck finding it on sale than I did!

At 12.5' you can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p even on a 50". Which means you shouldn't go smaller either...

Yea that's why I never said it had to be 1080p and why the Plasmas linked are 720p. Ok so 40s are out of the question now

She'll probably wonder why you bought her such a big TV! My parents absolutely refuse to believe there's any value in having a bigger TV. They used to sit about 12' from a 32" LCD. That got upgraded to a 42". I jokingly said I'd give them my 65" DLP so I could buy a bigger one and they said they'd be sitting too close it.

I think its because they're used to fuzzy IQ on CRTs. My folks used to have their room setup such that they sat about 20' away from a 52" CRT front projection TV.

She never said she really cared about size as her current tv is 51"

640x480 resolution, what a joke. That's a great projector if you want to display SDTV. You need 1920x1080.
