(Please tell me how this card works with your system. I have a similar set up and have been debating on getting a geforce 4 ti4200 128, but I have had concerns about the card being just to much for my system. What specific differences have you noticed with this card compared to your old card. Have fps really increased, or can you just crank up the setting but with similar fps. I want to get this card but can't seem to do it if it only gives me the same performance as a geforce 3 or r8500 on my system. Please give all the details you can and your overall impression.
Thanks)
Mellondust,
I have been able to do as you have said, i.e. crank all the vid settings to max and ALSO increase the res from my usual 800X600 to 1280X1024. I'd say that's a pretty good improvement. I have not seen a performance hit with any type of AA except 4x turned on (even that is slight). But, it looks a lot sweeter. I got the 128MB version because I know it wil become more useful down the line. My real tests will come when I am using a newer program based on the new UT or similar 3D engine. I think it will turn out that I will be CPU/Memory limited at that time. However, I got the 4200 based on the huge number of positive reviews I saw on the net. I needed to get something to last me into the future and not kill my pocketbook. Most of the reviews I read stated that for a value gamer, such as myself, it would be a while before a card with this much inherent value would show up again. By the time I need to increase my FPS again, Iit'll be cheap enough to pick up a faster CPU/MB/Ram setup for it anyway. haha. BTW my ASUS has o/c'd to 320/565 with no probs so far, but I hope to go farther in the future. Maybe reach 600 for the RAM if I'm lucky.
I have had problems with it not running in D3D for UT GOTY edition. That's a pain, but I haven't had the opportunity to try it on other D3D titles yet. I hope it doesn't carry on. Anyone have any ideas why it might be wonky in D3D?
