The posted comment (which has been quoted twice now) has said Steelers. Pretty sure they were referring to Pittsburgh, which is pretty mindless of them considering the question on hand was "who is better, Colts or Patriots"

amazing how one team winning means the other team gets a loss on their record. hmm, wonder if there is some kind of correlation. couldn't be could it?

steelers opponents combined record, 3 and 6
colts opponents combined record (5 and 4) (assuming a win in tonites game between the saints and titans)
Cowboys opponents combined record 2 and 7
Packers opponents combined record 3 and 6

i think i'm seeing a pattern here.

mb the difference in point differential scored between colts and their opponents vs pats and their opponents is the quality of opponents played. hmmmm.

What I'm trying to get at is that the Pats have played 2 bottom feeders and 1 over hyped team and they're supposedly the best team? The Steelers played the same caliber teams and they're no good? For me it's too soon to tell, but I picked the Colts because they are the defending SB champs.

i'd say your logic is based on too little, just the opponents W/L record, it doesn't take into consideration the actual talent on the teams, how they fared last year, how they fared the last 5 or 6 seasons and the impact of the coach among other things.

for me the keys are:

the pats have won 3 of 4 super bowls in the last 10 years, belicheck is one of the best coaches in the league.
the pats have added to their already formidible offense by adding randy moss.
the points spread in the wins by the pats.

the steelers lose to the pats in all 3 categories.
so do the cowboys.

the colts are the only ones that stack up with the pats, hence the poll.

but for my money, if i were betting on the best team right now, i think you'd be foolish not to pick the pats.

Much as I hate to say it, I agree with this. We'll see for sure in a few weeks. Of course, none of this means much of anything when it comes to the post-season. A lot can happen between now and the playoffs.

By your logic, the Steelers should still be 4th (maybe 5th) on the list of top teams. Its too early to use records as an example, because the game the teams in question played counts for 1/3 of it. The Steelers have beaten 1 division rival, 0 playoff teams from last year. They look a lot better than I thought they would, but of the unbeatens, they clearly have had the easiest schedule so far.

At any rate, on the subject of colts/pats, they're both 3-0, they've both played 2 division rivals and a playoff team from last year (actually the pats played 2). The Colts have the edge of being the returning champs, but against "similar" opponents, the Pats are blowing people out while the Colts have just squeeked by recently. I'm saying Patriots, but they play each other in a few weeks anyway, so we'll just have to see then.

Yes, I agree. If you go back enough to encompass more data the Pats are the better team. Fortunately, I'm not a gambling man. I believe in the "Any Sunday" philosophy.
