Alabama has the best BBQ

Now has become a multi-state chain expanding in the Atlanta Georgia area.

Dreamland BBQ

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreamland_Bar-B-Que

Dreamland Bar-B-Que is a barbecue restaurant chain based in Alabama. It was founded by "Big Daddy" John Bishop in the Jerusalem Heights neighborhood of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in 1958, but has since franchised, opening restaurants in Birmingham, Montgomery, Huntsville, Mobile, Northport, and opened two restaurants in the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area: Roswell, and Peachtree Corners.

The menu differs from location to location. At the original location in Tuscaloosa, the menu consists of only ribs, rib sandwiches, and white bread. At the other locations, in addition to ribs, they also serve pulled pork, barbecue chicken, smoked sausage, baked beans, cole slaw, potato salad, house salads and banana pudding.

Dreamland is eminently known for their ribs and their barbecue sauce.[1]
Accolades

The original Dreamland is one of Tuscaloosa's main attractions.[2] The restaurants have received much attention from local and national media outlets.

In 2005, Southern Living listed Dreamland in its article on the best restaurants in the state of Alabama.[3]

In 2006, USA Today included Dreamland as one of the top 10 "barbecue joints" in the country.[4] The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, in 2006 listed Dreamland at #3 of "best eateries around the SEC."[5]

Also, in May 2008, Details Magazine listed Dreamland as the best barbecue by mail order.[6]

This. I wouldn't discount the smaller non-chain places like Dick Russell's in Mobile or Archibald's in Tuscaloosa. As far as chains go, Jim n' Nick's is pretty decent as well.

Barry's outside of Rainsville is incredible. If anyone is nearby I highly recommend going there.

There's Dreamland BBQ less than 1 mile from me. It's decent if I'm feeling lazy and in mood for some ribs but if they're the best, I should start entering some BBQ competition.

Good thing about California BBQ is we have styles from all over. From Korean BBQ, to Texas, to Carolina, etc.

Also, a lot of the people who make BBQ here, have already done it successfully in other states, and brought it here for fortune and glory..... fortune and glory.

too bad they all suck in CA except for kbbq.

NC. Before I moved to the south all I had was heavy texas style BBQ. From my first sampling of lighter vinegar based BBQ I was hooked.

What idiots voted for California?

California doesn't have a style, we offer the best of all regions. Want Texas? You can go to Bludso's or Coop's. Want Tennessee? you can hit JayBee's, want just flat out awesome ribs? M&M's soul food. Want Mississipi style? You can go to Jones Brothers or Phil's. There's no other state that will have the BBQ choices like we do, I can have 9.5/10 quality BBQ in any style within an hour drive of where I live. That cannot be beat. We even have that icky KBBQ for people who are into it. I'm personally not at all, but I know most other regions don't offer KBBQ spots.

Phils was good, certainly not worth the 2 hour wait though.

Now you're just being silly. I bet k-town has more kbbq joints than the rest of the united states.

(well maybe not, but there is certainly hundreds of kbbq joints in k-town)

You must of had immitation Texas BBQ.

Texas BBQ isn't heavy.

Texas brisket > Carolina Pulled Pork IMHO.

Texas is also the best for sausage, chicken, and turkey. Ribs not so much and Pulled Pork is a sin in Texas...

Texas, Kansas City, and Memphis have the best of the best of almost every type of BBQ. That is unless you actually like pulled pork, and then its the Carolinas, but that is all the Carolina's do well. Everything else is far superior in Texas, Kansas City, and Memphis.
