I just bought a nexus 4 (I get it tomorrow), so it will probably be android. However if Ubuntu supports the nexus 4, I'll give it a shot.

Most likely will stay with Android, though I will definitely take a look at the BB and Windows offerings before buying a new device. The 920 and the Z10 both look pretty sweet, as does the software inside them, so if they are able to build on that, I will definitely have to take them under consideration.

I like having all of these choices when before there was really only one way to go. Hope it keeps up that way.

Android, though open to using whatever works best depending on the device.

Just got an Optimus G, so definitely Android. After that they only thing I'd consider is BB.

Android

Plan on keeping my Nexus 4 for 2 years + .

iOS is boring to me, and jailbreaking isn't as fun as Custom Roms and the development communities on the net.

If we are talking just about phones. Then I see a 80% chance I'll be staying on Android, 18% chance of me switching to Windows Phone, 2% chance of trying an iPhone, and 0% chance for Blackberry, Ubuntu, Firefox, or whatever new new phone OS springs up.

If we include tablets. I'll probably have an iPad mini 2, a new Kindle Fire, and a Windows 8 tablet with a Bay Trail Atom processor (or better).

Sadly I can't say Android is in my tablet future. Maybe things will improve in a year.

you left off firefox.

its really unbelievable how many os's think they can break into the mobile market. theyre pretty stupid if you ask me, being so late to the party. stuff like blackberry, webos, tizen, firefox, ubuntu and bada really have no chance of developing a following in my opinion, unless they do something really radical, and sell their phones directly for really cheap, like google does with nexus

I think Firefox, Tizen, Ubuntu, and Open WebOS will be in the "Other" category. :)

There are also rumors of Kindle phones, so I guess we can add Kindle OS to the list. Not sure if it'll be better than "Other" or not. Maybe it will just because it's Amazon and they may make the phone real cheap like Google has.

Bring them all on and get rid of DRMs off multimedia contents. I will be happy to choose.

Well, Microsoft seems to have gained some decent mindshare here, if nothing more.

With any luck, they can turn that mindshare into market share. If WP8 could somehow grab 15% of the market (a long shot in America right now), it would be pretty significant compared to the ~80% of the market iOS occupy. BB10 and miscellaneous operating systems would fall in the remaining 5% - unless BB10 causes a significant turnaround for RIM, WP8 is the only "minor" OS that is gaining marketshare now, and it is doing so incredibly slowly.

Also, the phone OS market is very oversaturated at this point. The only reason I consider it a possibility for Microsoft to capture a significant minority of the market is because they can afford to throw money at it until it succeeds. Microsoft is probably making enough off of Android licensing to fund their mobile department.

I realize I didn't do all that well in English class... But I don't think "other" means "unknown", instead I'm pretty sure "other" means everything else not listed. :)

I'd lump that stuff into "other" myself, because "other" on most charts also means stuff so insignificant it's not worth mentioning individually. That covers Firefox, Tizen, Ubuntu (phone ones anyway), Open WebOS, Symbian.

For Blackberry's sake, I hope they don't end up in the "other" category either soon.

Considering no one has either voted "Ubuntu/Linux" or "Other", or voiced such a choice in the thread itself, I don't see the big deal...

In any case, I didn't feel like listing every OS option. And I'm sure there are some weird ones out there I haven't heard of, and I bet there's some oddball out there who plans on staying on Symbian or Windows Mobile for the next 5 years.

Oh, and since Ubuntu is shipping in October (and being developed on Galaxy Nexus) I could see myself having it in a year. It looks very promising and further convergence of desktop and mobile is a plus in my book. Visually it looks good, too. I voted Windows Phone, though, which is what I'm currently on.

Android. Just got my Note 2 and it would be a waste to use something different so soon and throw away money.
Not on contract or anything but still.

Most definitely. The only people who don't like more competition are irrational fans (not to be confused with rational ones) or those with financial stakes in companies.
