I can pretty much gurantee you that you will never EVER get laid if you have that fvcking thing on your skin.

At the bar:
You: "Oh yeah I've got a tattoo"
Her: "Really. Let me see"
You: "Here"
Her: "WTF is that"
You: "It's star trek logo"
Her: "WHAT? MWAHAHAHA ...HHAHAA... " (falling off the chair laughing)
HAHAHAHAH so true!

Well you can bet that we'll never get ATOT tattooed on our person
I never said these were the only things that influenced my life, but I don't have infinite amounts of money or skin space.

At least I was prepared, and expected a majority of pricks to respond.
We're pricks because we are expressing the truth? Just in case you're not aware even the Actors who starred in Star Trek make fun of Trekkies.

Okay, so for those of you that aren't against tattoos in general, what makes a tattoo a good idea? Are country flags a good idea? An eagle? Freddie Krueger? Video game characters? A heart with MOM written on it? Generic Kanji and tribal stuff that "just look good"? Why does the association with "dork" automatically make it a bad idea?

Just to be clear, I've never been to a Trek convention. I'm not a rabid animal about it. I'm a fan. I don't know every episode by heart. I stopped buying Trek novels over a decade ago. I only own some collectibles that I again bought over a decade ago or that family gave to me as gifts. I've never worn a Trek costume of any kind. I just watch the shows and movies, and not even all of the series.

And yeah, you're pricks. Expressing "the truth" as you put it would be to say you think it's too dorky. Commenting on my sex life while bypassing the swear filter is what makes you pricks. But hey, you're allowed to break the rules, I forgot (the you being a general reference to whoever's getting away with it at the moment).

Not only should you get the tattoo, but you should get it enlarged big enough to cover your entire back. That would be so badass!

Edited to add: The second one would be the best one for a back-covering tattoo. It'll be easier to make look symmetrical to your centerline.

Listen you might not have ever been to a Trekkie convention but you get that tattoo it will be assumed by most who see it that you are a Charter Member.

Hey you admit that you expected some derision about that tattoo, who are you bothered when your expectations are met? I mean why did you ask if you didn't want to hear other's opinions about it that might not might not be supportive of it?

Your body, your money... get whatever tattoo you like!

I'd bet there is at least one person in this thread that was a trend-whore and got either a lower back tattoo or the barb-wire/ivy arm tattoo. Being a trend-whore is more laughable to me than getting something others consider nerdy.

Yes, I am a nerd, but that is not why I feel that way. I like to see people thinking for themselves instead of doing whatever someone else tells them is cool.

I feel like a tattoo should be something that represents an integral part of you are. I think it should also be original as possible. I don't think anyone should consider a television show or video game to be an integral part of themselves. That's not just Star Trek, either. I would not advocate anyone getting any television show themed tattoo at all, unless you were actually personally connected to it as in an actor, writer, producer, etc. There is simply nothing original about a logo that someone else designed for someone else's creation.

Country flags are OK. Not original, but your nationality is intrinsic to you. An eagle is OK if it symbolizes something to you. Not Freddie Krueger. Never a video game character. If you want to honor your mother, that's fine. Trendy tattoos are not terrible if it really does mean something to you, but your design should at least be original and not just chosen off the wall.

So you believe that those with the trendy tattoos got them because someone told them it was cool? Have you ever considered that they saw them on another person and they themselves thought they were cool? If one was to listen to you wouldn't they be doing exactly what you accuse trendy people of doing?

you are being a bit harsh, but i have to agree i don't think either tat option is very appealing.

The question is: would they have gotten that tattoo if it hadn't been the current trend? Some will say 'yes' but they are often incapable of really thinking outside the trend. Do you really think the majority of college age women that have lower back tattoos got them because it was something they always wanted? They got them to fit in with the other women.

Damn, now that I have to worry about being labeled a Trend Whore, deciding what tattoo to get has become a tough task. My dilemma, how to be unique when it's trendy to be unique:confused:

If you have to ask a bunch of strangers on the internet what you should get as a tattoo... then you shouldn't be getting one.
