Which should I go with for tattoo?

My overall lifetime tattoo choices are always going to be things that mean something to me, stuff that has influenced my life. (So far I have a giant star on my chest, circuitry on my wrist and the caffeine molecule on my leg.) Star Trek has been one of the hugest and oldest influences on me, and it's about time I go for it.

So now I've got to choose which emblem to go with. This is going to go on my right arm, on the outside of the bicep like a uniform badge. It doesn't fit with the whole Trek uniform design at all, but I have this thing about all my tattoos going on the right side of my body, or at most on the center line like my chest. My plan I think will be over time to get the emblems from lots of shows that really meant something to me over the years, but this is definitely going to be the first of them.

Anyway, I narrowed it down to two of the emblems. The first one is the emblem worn by command officers in the original series. Naturally this appeals because it was the beginning, this is the Trek that I first saw (I had to have been under 10 since I know I'd seen it before The Next Generation started). Trek has always appealed to my love of space, and it's the first series I can remember that really tapped into that.

I thought awhile and finally decided against the standard Next Generation emblem/badge. It's just too plain; the triangle shape is plain silver, on a plain gold oval background. My second option is from an alternate timeline episode, Future Imperfect. I'd go with the bars all being gold I think since that would be a full Captain's rank. This one appeals to me just because it looks nicer, even though the triangle is plain, the multiple bars add a bit of complexity to it. Of course, it's less recognizable as a Trek symbol, and doesn't have such a pervading meaning to the series.

I'm really chuffed to be finally getting another tattoo. It may be a completely uncool and really not very unique concept for the art but it means a lot to me.

Thats the lamest fvcking thing i've ever seen...sorry but that's so bltantly pathetic that i'm running out of words

I can pretty much gurantee you that you will never EVER get laid if you have that fvcking thing on your skin.

At the bar:
You: "Oh yeah I've got a tattoo"
Her: "Really. Let me see"
You: "Here"
Her: "WTF is that"
You: "It's star trek logo"
Her: "WHAT? MWAHAHAHA ...HHAHAA... " (falling off the chair laughing)

Please don't do it.

It's permanent just think when you're 65 years old will you still be glad you got this tattoo?

If you're going to get a tattoo... get something nice and classy.

Maybe a rose or a heart with the letters "ATOT" across it?

NOT having it hasn't done me any good in that department. I'm getting it for me, not to impress people.

At least it's not tribal crap or Kanji.

Thats gonna be my next tat!

Seriously though, think about it more before you do it. I've gotten 2 done so far. One I absolutely love, its very simple. The other I'm starting to regret. Luckily I can easily change the one I regret.

I wonder fvcking why

In either case, I just want to make it crystal clear that you are considering tattooing yourself with a *woman repellent*

Go with the second one, it looks a bit more retro.

Ignore the overly self-conscious peanut gallery.

I don't think I'll ever regret it. I've been a Trek fan for two decades now, I've been thinking about getting this one done for years. I may one day not think "this tattoo currently means something to me" but I'll always be able to think "this was once a major part of me".

I think getting something like this, for me, is loads better than people walking into a shop and picking out some predrawn picture of a dragon or wolf or eagle or flag. Those are the kinds of things that I'd regret in later years.

I think anyone considering what he is going is beyond hope. I mean seriously I am a dork and would make fun of someone with this.

Well think again because it isn't better.

Second one is more obcure.

But, ya, I agree, tattoos are dopey-looking. I've never ever seen ANY tattoo on anybody that I thought made them look anything positive.

Yeah,
the sad part is people like him are why IT professionals (most ATmemebers) are stuck with the nerdom stigma no matter what they do. The whole dork image is propagated by like 5 people in the idustry, but they are so pathetic and beyond help that it sticks to the whole sector.

My inner child cries every time a CS professor makes a star trek analogy...

The only influences in your life have been some star, a circuit, caffiene and Star Trek?

That's quite sad. :(

Star trek is a major part of your life right now?

I think I consider it worse to have reached 20k, 30k posts on an Internet message board, in terms of not having any sort of life.

I never said these were the only things that influenced my life, but I don't have infinite amounts of money or skin space.

At least I was prepared, and expected a majority of pricks to respond.
