didn't know there was a game that was capable of that.
You will struggle to find any relatively new game that won't run at any resolution the user chooses.

What does mouse smoothing do?
It smoothes the mouse by averaging several samples and as a result it introduces lag into sharp and sudden movements.

I just tried STAT FPS on Unreal II, and it turns out I was playing at 13-15fps.
ROFL, "smooth" indeed. I rest my case. ;)

There are exceptions to every rule, and Morrowind is the exception to this rule =)
Agreed. NOLF is another such game. :)

1280X1024. People say it isn't the correct ratio for CRT,
It's a 5:4 ratio which is for LCDs, not CRTs. The standard CRT ratio is 4:3 and at such a ratio the pixels are the closest to being perfect circles. If you run at any other ratio the pixels distort and the resulting image does too.

Samsung 172N LCD display, 1280x1024 native resolution kinda limits my options.

No AA or AF
32 bit
60 Hz Refresh (does refresh rate even apply to an LCD moniter?)

AT 1280x1024, the picture looks great, and I cant see a difference. At that resolution, the picture is still at a 4:3 even though it is a 5:4 resolution. But everything looks fine. if it is the wrong ratio, then why would it be the optimal res, and better yet, why is it included here?

I called Dell, and they said that the picture at 1280x1024 should be 5:4 and there was something wrong with my monitor.

Somehow, I found that my monitor was able to do 100Hz at lower res than 12x10, so now I started to play games with that refresh. With Vsync off, the tearing seems a lot more noticeable and too distracting, so I need to have it on, if I play at that refresh rate. Response from mouse is insane. Like a boost of speed. 100Hz is very weird. I started playing at 10x7 now.

Distorting geometry isn't really an issue with 3D games--the extra horizontal res just gets translated to more detailed info, not more info squished into the same space. The HUD may be fixed-res, but you probably won't notice a big diff b/w 12x9 and 12x10 on something as secondary as a HUD.

I'd try a res with a ratio that matches your monitor for office work, though, like 12x9 or 14x10. If you like round circles, that is.

AA 6x (I think)
AF 16x (I think)

I usually played on 1280x1024 with no AA or AF and it looks pretty much the same at those settings on my 17" which is 5 years old.

I mainly play Americas Army.

I won't play a game at less than 1280x1024 and I prefer 1600x1200 but that's an impossibility with the newest games if I want playable frame-rates, know what I'm sayin'? I have vsync on at 70 hertz as this allows the game to flow like a seamless movie. I always play in 32-bit color and 4x AF but no AA.:)
