Brian, how's that socket 940>939 conversion goin'?

He cut a pin off his VIA chip and stuck it on his 939 chip. Problem solved.

WRONG! I had a 940 pin AMD chip and I cut one off and stuck it in a 939 board. All the extra pin is for is the ECC to check memory errors. Since I'm not using ECC memory, I don't need that pin so I cut it off. It's the smartest thing I ever did.

Might you take a picture and highlight which pin we should remove please? I would like to do this also! 😉

Here is a picture of the CPU after the pin is removed. I circled where it used to be so that you can mod your CPU too! No need to thank me, I understand you're excited that you'll soon be using a processor without that Emergency Coruption Check stuff. (a type of memory, I mean, everyone needs to reply, I mean in Soveit Russia..., I mean the message is clear, I mean SPIDER, I mean WTFBBQ hi2u.)

Oh and FIRST POST!

Buy good value RAM and run a divider.

:thumsup;

There is no reason to go with expensive RAM as it will not benefit you much. Get 2GB of Corsair Value Select for $150 or somewhere around there.

ECC ram and registered ram are two different things.....
Exactly CORRECT! Please remember to send in your registration card and that should clear up any problems. I had a problem when I bought some 'used' registered memory from a guy on a forum and the memory didn't work right. It ends up that the registration card had been returned for lack of postage, and so the factory had never enabled the 'registered' function of the memory. I think that they do it with a beam from a satellite!

I do lots of video encoding, and want to "Overclock" (process of speeding up CPU) my X2 4400+ to 2.4 ghz only.

Everyone needs to reply.

Why the fvck are you getting an AMD that only runs at 2.4ghz when you can get an Intel that runs at 3.4ghz for the same price.

Which intel processor would that be? The Intel Pentium 4 650 for $420? Which gets beat by Athlon 64's that cost half that amount?

Besides, the Athlon 64 X2 4400+ costs $600+, and I couldn't even find it in stock yet.

haha he took the bait 😀

Amplifier,

According to "Benchies" at a lower "Clock" the "AMD" CPU performs better than the "Intel Pentium 4" at the higher frequenices.

This is a common mistakes for noobies (You) so I understand the awful, ugly horrible error.

Thank you.

You're saying 3.4ghz is slower than 2.4ghz, lol give me a break. That's like saying a Porsche that hits 190mph is slower than a Civic that can only hit 80mph.

AMD is a thirdworld chipset manufactorer that makes cheap knockoff Intel chips.

I'm guessing you don't like America. The only reason a person would buy AMD over Intel is irrational hatred for the US of A.

Who has factories in Phillipines? Last time I heard, Phillipines were a third world country

the sad thing is that i've had a teacher say almost exactly that, and he was serious

You can do more than watch pr0n with a PC? Awesome! I must "Ask Jeeves" about this new capability.

Well, we apparently must reply, so I think you should go with a VIA C3 processor and underclock it. Trust me, it'll kick the ass of Xeon workstations every day. VIA 4 evar omglolzrox0rzzz!!oneeleven!

Speaking of VIA, didn't they buy Cyrix? I'd look at some of those 286 and 386 Cyrix CPU's. They were awesome.

Then again, seriously, a better choice might be to go with a rack of these CPU's. I mean, look at the first one - 486! It would take well over a hundred of those 3.4's to get anywhere near a 486!
