I guess in a country where petty crimes aren't rampant, it's okay to naturally keep it your back pocket. In some countries, you'll lose your wallet faster than you can sit down in the metro station.

Indeed. I used to keep it in my back pocket, until it was pickpocketed in a crowded subway.
My wallet found a permanent home in my left front pocket ever since.

To the guys whining about a "bulky wallet" in the front pockets ... try carrying bills, not coin, and buy pants that aren't sprayed on.
