And when you finally get around to updating everything (ie kernel). I just want through a 10 reboot day today (win2k). ugh

Ouch...were you patching a system?

Yeah, installed 2k like 2 months ago, applied all the patches (except for sp3) today. And no yelling at me for not patching it sooner, it wasnt an a network and was basically turned off the entire time ;)

RedHat Limbo Beta 2 (8.0) - its a Windows killer (finally!)

Tried Mandrake 8.2, Suse 8, Lycoris Update 2, and pretty much everying else they call easy. Limbo is the first one I can use like Windows, everything graphically within 2 clicks, and it looks good too (first for an out of the box Linux distro IMO) Plus, RedHat is as close to a recognized name as you're going to get in open source.

typical windows 2k/xp install:

boot from cd, format hd, copy files --reboot--
do some other crap --reboot--
<there might be another reboot here, i forget>
install motherboard drivers --reboot-
install sound drivers --reboot-
install video drivers --reboot-
update 1 from windowsupdate --reboot-
update 2 from windowsupdate --reboot-
update 3 from windowsupdate --reboot-
other windowsupdate updates that require you to reboot --multiple reboots-
other device drivers --reboot-
other software --multiple reboots-
oh yeah, dont forget - crashes! --multiple reboots-

Linux:
boot from cd, copy base system to hard drive, setup boot loader --reboot-
after that you dont need to reboot unless you upgrade kernel or find some odd package that needs a reboot

ok, so its not completely accurate, but you get the idea :p

Easiest install I've ever done was QNX, and it only took 5-10 minutes to finish installing.
