boot from cd, format hd, copy files --reboot--
do some other crap --reboot--
<there might be another reboot here, i forget>
install motherboard drivers --reboot-
install sound drivers --reboot-
install video drivers --reboot-
update 1 from windowsupdate --reboot-
update 2 from windowsupdate --reboot-
update 3 from windowsupdate --reboot-
other windowsupdate updates that require you to reboot --multiple reboots-
other device drivers --reboot-
other software --multiple reboots-
oh yeah, dont forget - crashes! --multiple reboots-
Linux:
boot from cd, copy base system to hard drive, setup boot loader --reboot-
after that you dont need to reboot unless you upgrade kernel or find some odd package that needs a reboot
