I just bought the exact ASUS card you listed from Newegg. I put it in last night and, with stock cooling, got it to a stable 320/690! That's far past 4600 speeds! Even if you don't overclock, it comes stock at 260/550, which is only 15MHz core below the Ti4400. You can't beat that deal!
I should also add that, assuming you will overclock, there ar two other factors that set the ASUS card apart from the other two. First off, it has the same 8-layer PCB that the Ti4600 has. This makes for cleaner signals, especially if you're wanting higher speeds. It also has 3.3ns RAM, and I know the other two don't. Even if you don't want to overclock now, you could always overclock down the road some time when things aren't going as fast as you'd like them to.

Hey guys...just was catching up on this discussion.
What games are going to use/require DX9 in the near future? Doom3? Half-Life 2?? And let me get something straight...if a card, such as the NVIDIA Ti4200, doesn't support DX9, does that mean it will not run a DX9 game at all...or just at a lesser performance level? Please advise.

Well... you need to consider a few things... do you want to enable Anti-Aliasing and Ansiotropic Filtering for improved image quality? If so, the smartest choice right now would be an ATI, because they don't take as big a performance hit with those enabled as nVidia cards do... the GeForce FX's are better at it than GeForce 4's, but still not as good as ATI's. For around $200 I'd recommend either a 9500 Pro or 9700 non pro. (the 9700 will be slightly faster than the 9500 Pro)
Then again... if you don't need those features turned on... then I'd recommend the Asus V8420S. It can be overclocked to above Ti4600 speeds as I've said before... and it's only $140... so you're getting Ti4600 performance for $140... not too shabby.
To be honest... not upgrading for 2-3 years is a little unrealistic in my eyes. I realize you're using a GeForce3 that you've probably had for 2 years at least... but you're having trouble play games now. I like to upgrade things before my old hardware is useless to everyone else too. I end up paying about $25-50, but I'm never in the situation where I can't enjoy a game because my hardware won't run it at an adequate speed.
I play BF1942 too... and without AF and AA on, I get around 70-80 FPS... good enough for me. I plan on upgrading again this fall to maybe a GeForce FX with the NV35 core that's just coming out now... because by this fall, the NV40 should be about ready to make it's way onto shelves.
I know I haven't really given you an answer... so if I were you, here's what I'd do...
If I have $200, I'd get a 9500 Pro or 9700 non-pro... if $150 would be easier to come up with, I'd go with the same card I have right now... Asus V8420S.

Guys, I was referring to this guy who was considering the 9280S which he says is $215. This is the exact price for a 5600U as previously posted. As far as a 4200 that can be had for 100 dollars less (Or even a 75 dollar difference), of course there is a reason to purchase one of these.
I wasn't considering buying the 9280s, just listing the price. I went with the 8420s and am very happy with it.

I went with the Asus V8420S (just got it last week). For me the choice was between this card for $140 or paying a bit more and getting an OEM 9500 Pro. I also noticed that Mwave has the V8420 Deluxe for around $165, if you want to get Hardware monitoring, VR, and VIVO with your card.
I put up my own quicky review of the card, here, if the information in the above posts wasn't enough for you to read.
