Are you a person/family who does the traveling for Thanksgiving or does everyone come over to your place?

I prefer to stay home and cook, so I try to force people over to my place. So much better that way:

1. I get to cook (enjoy cooking)
2. I get to make what I want and how I like it (I take suggestions of course)
3. I get to stay in the kitchen and do not have to hang out with everyone as much
4. I like pumpkin pie

Wheres the option for no really close friends or family to go to? Please add that to the list so I can vote.

Are you the OP? You sound like "a loser" to me...😛

in 2003, when our son's helicopter squadron came home from Iraq a couple of weeks before Turkey day, we put out word that any and all who either had no place to go (or couldn't afford to go) were welcome to spend the day with us.
IIRC, we ended up with 8 or 9 Marines at our house for the holiday weekend.

They demolished a 25+ lb bird, a large beef roast, a large ham, 20 lbs of sweet potatos, 20 lbs of mashed potatos, 6 or 7 pies, a couple of loafs of different fruit breads, a couple of cakes, "Why Mrs. Boomer, that there's an upside down pineapple cake. That's my favorite!" and at least a couple of gallons of milk.
Having been a Marine once myself, I had a well stocked bar waiting for them, several whiskeys, vodka, rum, tequila, wine, and a couple of cases of beer. To my HUGE surprise, between them all, they might have drank a 12 pack of beer.
Later, we were told that the squadron commander had heard that we were inviting them to the house and ORDERED them not to get drunk and embarrass him...🙄
He personally called up the week after Thanksgiving and thanked us for allowing his Marines to call our house "home" for the holiday. He's the one who explained about the drinking...😀

The next time we were at Miramar, we got to meet him and he thanked us again profusely. <shrug> Apparently we were the only family who had extended such an invite.
We were Camp Boomer for the holiday.

Where is the option for staying home alone, eating turkey dogs, and crying because we're lonely?

This indicates you don't travel, so you vote NO - third choice on the list. Or you can vote for the pie, since everyone in the world likes pumpkin pie. Everyone knows this. 😉

Good job, Boomer. I'm sure those Marines will remember your generosity and compassion for the rest of their lives. I was Army, but I was attached to a company of the 3rd Mar Div for a couple of months at Cua Viet in 1968. They were fine men, one and all, and 'never give up' fighters.

There are quite a few of us on these boards who vacationed in Uncle Sam's Vacation Resort on the South China Sea...
/me shakes Happy Puppy's hand and offers a hearty "Welcome Home!"

Oh yeah...FUCK JANE FONDA!

I guess. I just didn't keep up with any friends over the years and family getogethers really isn't a big deal in my family.

Dude, I'm just fucking with you. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a quiet day at home all alone. I'm ISTJ and PREFER my alone time.
My daughter and her kids were supposed to spend the day with the kids' dad's family, then changed their minds and wanted to come here instead.
<sigh> there went MY quiet time.<sigh>

I am away for school, so I travel back home for Thanksgiving. And then, our family travels to my aunt and uncle's farm for Thanksgiving with that side.
We then usually do something to get together with some of the other side of the family.

I'm a single guy living in a shoebox apartment... I do the traveling for the holidays.

thanksgiving dinner at my parents house, christmas eve dinner at my sister's in-laws, and christmas day brunch at my uncle's.
