My dad swares by fram, so in turn I use it as well because he buys like 20 of them when they go on sale. I have seen some posts that say that fram are not good oil filters. What would a quality oil filter be for:

1993 Toyota Camry LE 4cyl - mine

2001 Toyota Camry LE 4cyl - dads

Mobil 1 High Efficiency. Yeah, it's 10 bucks, but if you use Mobil 1 synthetic in combination with a Mobil 1 filter, you can easily go 7,500mi between oil changes.

Fram's are garbage. Their flow rates are atrocious.

Some of the best filters are made by Motorcraft.

Best for the money is the K&N

I don't mind changing oil at all. Both cars are changed every 4000km.

I belive we use castrol and motomaster oil.

Purolator, Wix, Hastings, Baldwin, some filters made by Champion Labs (not the new Ecore styles (i'm unsure about the reliability of the thermal fusing of the fiber endcaps to the media, as well as the uneven media pleat spacing), or the cliker-type bypass vlaves), Fram X2(but this one is waaaaaay overpsriced for what you can get for half the price).

Champion labs makes filters for: Supertech, Advance auto, STP, bosch, mobil 1, and many many others.

Purolator and wix are probably youre best point bewteen cost and performance.

Where would I get these? From everything that I have ever bought for my car the dealership is 1.5x to 6x as expensive as aftermarket shops.

Dude! It's a filter...for the oil...on a car. It's not a piece of the space shuttle.

I would hate to be the engine in your car. Why not just use a piece of wadded up toilet paper then? :p

Yes there is. They are JUNK. I have seen quite a few of them fail when I was a auto-tech.

Just about any filter NOT made by Honeywell (ala Fram)

i agree, i use mobil 1 oil, and mobil 1 filters ONLY. why? cause its the best. its more expensive, but trust me, its the best oil and filter for your car.

as for going 7,500 miles... i wouldnt go more then 5k... 5k being the most. i'd still change the oil every 3k, better safe then sorry.

Your computer is hundreds of times faster than the ones on the Apollo program. Your point?

You know acutally, they sell kits out there, really they are bypass oil fitler kits, that can use a toilet paper roll as the filter.

If you use M1 and a M1 filter then 7500miles is easy with 10K probable no problem either.

Just don;t use that junk Fram filter

Even better than safe than sorry would be to do a Used Oil Analysis (UOA) to help determine when you should change your oil. These reports will show you wear numbers of certain metals, as well as insoluables and fuel dilution/flashpoint, viscosity. The longer you go on your oil changes, the better economically, and the less moeny and time you have to spend changing your oil.

With your application, the choice of oil filter isn't going to make a lick of difference.

I've never had a problem with Fram.

Currently using a Fram XG8A on my engine.
