I am interested in getting a notebook for a couple of reasons. One is to do the general daily tasks of email and word processing. The other thing I am interested in is using Photoshop 7 on it. Here is the criteria for the notebook.

Under $1500
Under 5 pounds
about 2.5-3 hrs. battery life

I want to be able to work on Photoshop and not have to wait a year for it to do filters. Right now my desktop is a AMD XP 1800+..so I would like something with about the same computing power so I can't tell the difference when using filters and working. Any suggestions?!?

IBM ThinkPad T40 - 4.9 lbs with optical drive, 4.5 without. Check out the reviews at Anand's and Tom's Hardware. CNET also has a decent review with pics from different angles.

Why would you want a notebook when you want to do photoshop?

Wouldnt a 17-20inch widescreen be better with a Pundit system?

I was thinking about the Fujitsu but then I have heard horror stories of the Harddrives and the warranty. Plus, I don't think I could do a loan type thing from them, like Dell or Gateway. Do they sell Fujitsu's in B&M stores?

On the widescreen conderum...I already have a 19 monitor with my desktop. I would like something for school and to present and occasionally work on my photos and other stuff I do for bands while I am away. I am hoping to get a photo studio set up and I would also use the laptop as a demo machine to show probablities and choices of designs. Sort of like a business card that speaks more than a business card.

Also...which is "better" the new AMD XP-Mobile chips or a P4-M? And then better between XP-Mobile and the Centrino setups?

I think the AthlonXP Mobile and P4M are pretty even, but the Centrino (PM) beats 'em all.

Fujistu has a new line out, the 6000 series, that is P4-M, and then their s2000 series is the AMD-XP. All of them under $1500. I dunno what to do. Any suggestions? How could I get an IBM, if I am not a small business, from them?

And to top it all off, you can add a Wireless LAN module for flexible communication without wires.

Thats about it, if your intrested PM me, but i can prolly do it shipped anywhere in the USA ground $1029.00... oh and there is still a manufacturers warranty on this until June, second week of june i believe, so like another 30 days, any problems, ship it back to me and I'll fix it for you as long as i can get it before the warranty expires. as i said, if intrested, PM me, i'm not sure i can negotiate a price at all, i think its pretty firm, but its a good price. LMK either way =)

Speaking of the XP-M processors...I have not seen any benchmarks for the systems or for the battery life. I know the averatec lappy that I was looking at states "3+" hours of battery life...and you know how they exaterate the truth. I wish someone would do a review of the cheap lappys also..not just the mainstream and better. Cuz I'm poor! :D
