sky because it's based on the elise.

wha???

lotus != gm, lotus has toyota engine in it... wtf

the elise and the VX220 are based on the same platform, and so is the sky.

but yeah i think the sky would be the worst of the bunch. however it's also very cheap.

The Sky is NOT based off a Lotus Elise.

The Sky will be a much larger car, and its Front Engine, RWD. The Elise is Mid-Engined RWD, and much smaller (not to mention, weighs about 900lbs less).

The Sky and the Solstice share the same platform (Kappa Platform), same engine and same transmission. There will practically be no performance difference between the two cars. Lotus has NOTHING to do with the Sky/Solstice.

thats exactly what im thinking. there is no way in hell that super car is related to the kappa platform, else GM would be toting it like nothing else.

GM does own vauxhall and opel, which makes the VX220/speedster, which are based on the current lotus elise.

yes, but not the kappa platform

Sky

Nobody is better at making the front end of a car look like crap than Pontiac and Mitsubishi.

i disagree

You just proved my point, as soon as I clicked on the link the 1st thought to pop in my head was (about the black one) "WTH?? Is that a Mitsubishi branded Pontiac Sunfire?" LOL

to each of their own. IMO the FTO is one of the best looking compact coupes ever made and it was competitive to the integra type R, all of which started 11 years ago. GM was still making those boxy cavalier's back then.

I agree, the FTO looks almost like a mini Supra. imo the best looking compact coupe would be the S15 Silvia.

Nope...4WD '05 Xterra owner here. Although I will admit, I do miss the feel of a manual tranny. Much easier to pass Cheerios back to the baby and put on her Dora The Explorer cd with the automatic, however. ;)

also, the solstice is darn near aesthetically perfect, while the sky looks like a kid's RC car.

Pontiac probably could have doubled sales if they just did this

Agreed 100%

Pontiac probably could have doubled sales if they just did this

1) That is ugly as hell
2) No twin kidney grill elimates the Pontiac in the car...pointless

How is it uglier than the original? Same honeycomb grille, same area covered .. All I did was straighten the top line - I may be mistaken, but I fail to see that it suddenly clashes with the other lines of the car.

well, yeah, except that was exactly the point. To the best of my memory, Pontiac hasn't designed a car that wasn't downright ugly - "ribbed for no-one's pleasure" I believe I heard it called - since the '69 firebird or thereabouts. I kinda don't want to be reminded of all those plastic extravagances when I look at this car :D

Edit: upon further consideration, I have decided that debadging it would probably be sufficient to meet my requirements ... The grille only looks like a pontiac because I am expecting it to.

Solstice.

I feel so superficial because I just don't get the infatuation you people have with interiors.

I'm probably the biggest Saturn fan here (I love my SL1) but the Sky leaves a faint taste of bile in my mouth. Those headlights are just terrible. It looks disfigured. The solstice has clean, flowing lines that meld and work together.

Really? Where do you sit when you drive?

Oh, and Sky/Solstice? I like 'em both. Too bad you'll get gouged at the dealers on both (maybe less so @ a Saturn dealer?) and will have to endure the inevitable recalls and "not really trying that hard" build quality. But they look nice.

The Solstice is just bad ass in real life... havent see a sky up close and personal, these cars are a lot smaller than their pictures might lead you to believe, i'm thinking the sky will be a little busy for such a small rig, the only sky i want is the one with the two "y's (skyy)... thats just me..

The Solstice is far from aesthetically perfect. It looks good, but the more I see of it, the less I like it.

I think the Sky looks better, but it could use some tweaking as well.

The front of the Sky needs more work. The two side openings that house the foglamps are too big and there's some odd shaping going on (would look better if they had the space between the lights and upper opening and the lower openings be equal, whereas now it kinda narrows at the edges. If they would tone down the openings a bit it'd look quite a bit better.

The back end of both needs some work. First of all is the single exhaust. I'm not going to say that there has to be dual exhaust openings on a sports car (which does give it a much better look), but at least do something more than just put a little cutout or a stupid looking square opening for it. The rear fender arches bug me because the peak of the arch is not over the rear tire but rather is farther back, which just messes up the lines.

However, I still think both are great looking, and considering the price and from what I've read, decent performance/fun, I would be happy to own either one.
