if you don't want to take drugs, that is your decision. if you decide not to take drugs because you learned about how bad it is in school, or you think that any expansion of the mind through a substance outside of the body is bad, then i think that it is a closed minded and ignorant decision, but you can do whatever you want. howeverm don't push your "morals" on others just because you are closed minded.

Though I usually like to hear with edipisreks has to say, partly because he has a cool name, partly because he has a take no sh!t attitude, I have to disagree here.
"there is nothing inherantly bad about altering ones perception with a substance. "
So, nothing wrong with being on crack? What about the psychotic state of mind it puts you in, making you more likely to commit random acts of violence?
"yes, drugs can be harmful if taken too large of a quantity, but so can hamburgers"
so can air (hyperventilating) or water (drowning). That's not the point of the argument. So botulism toxin isn't bad because everything in excess is bad? When people ask if something is bad for you, they mean in a degree - is a regular amount of a drug taken daily bad for you? In which case, there is plenty of evidence to show the effects of long term use of alcohol and weed, and other drugs.
"the vast majority of the "drug problem" was caused by the laws against drugs, not the drugs themselves."
like, handguns don't kill people, people kill people...
you'd be hard pressed to refute the correlation between criminal acts and substance abuse of criminals in our prisons. People steal, kill, and rape trying to get money to buy their next fix. How are the laws against drugs the problem?
"the majority of the most brilliant people who ever lived were taking a drug in some form."
yeah - and they were brilliant because they did? How about they were brilliant because they were naturally more intelligent people? Or how about because they all worked really hard at whatever they did? Guaranteed that the number of dumbasses taking a drug in some form is way higher than the number of brilliant people taking a drug.
Close minded is not being able to see another point of view. While people who refuse to take drugs can thus be labelled as close-minded, so can people who only think that drugs are acceptable.
