I think 5 Alaskas would make 1 "rest of" the USA. Montana is 4th biggest state, BTW. Fairbanks is 357 miles from Anchorage. One time I was 1000 miles away from my ex-wife, and we were both still in Alaska. Mt McKinley (aka Denali) is the largest mountain in North America. The Trans-Alaskan Pipeline is over 800 miles long and supplies 25% of the nation's oil.
By governmental decree, Alaska has 1 timezone, so that at noon in Fairbanks during daylight savings, the sun is in a 2:00PM position.
It's light outside right now (at 11:30PM) as we approach the summer soltice (June 21, usually). It doesn't really get dark at all for the next two months. We pay for this in the darkness of winter. Boy, do we pay. Fairbanks has one of the largest temperature variation, sometimes reaching +90F in the summer and -45F in the winter.
A lot of organizations in Alaska are "the farthest north" affiliate i.e. Girl Scout Troop 34 is the farthest north, and we have the farthest north Harley Davidson dealership, farthest north golf course, etc. etc.
Maetryx (me), ShotgunSteve, GrimmX, Jugernot, Nutdotnet and J3anyus are all Alaskans.
