Which is the best car insurance company?

I would not recommend Geico for this reason alone--if you have a claim, you work with whoever happens to pickup the phone. next time you call you get someone else. there is no ownership on their end, you have to tell the same story over and over and over.

Have Progressive here, and doubt I will change anytime soon. Their service is great and their rates are the lowest of any of the big companies for me.

No internet-only provider is going to give you great service. Those that have local offices where you can talk to real people normally give the best results.

USAA here as well. Banking, CC, Auto, & Renters.

Ok, from what I can conclude, it's between state farm and USAA. Any other suggestion?

USAA is for military or current/former military dependents only.

The cheaper the insurance, the slower they pay, and the lower they pay, and the shoddier the service. The more expensive the insurance, blah blah, etc.

I guess Progressive can't be considered Internet only, so I won't disagree with the statement. But I will say I had State Farm for years, Progressive is better in every way.

I don't know how JD got thoose results. State Farm loved to use cheap parts, infact I believe they had a lawsuit about that. Progressive had faster payments in my experience, and less hassle. My fiance had to get her car fixed because of hail, she brought it to the dealer and they wanted like $1000 more then what Progressive appraised the damage at, the dealer called Progressive and they had no problem.

My family's been with Allstate since forever. They've been literally AMAZING in every single accident we've been in. No money, no checks mailed, no hassles. Just take the car to an approved repair shop, get it fixed, and Allstate takes care of the rest. And when my car was totalled last April, I had a check in my hands in less than 2 weeks.

Too bad, I would really have liked to get them.

My wife had a rock fly up on the freeway, hit her windshield and slightly spider it (about 1 cm circumference w/ 4-5 legs).

State Farm is replacing the windshield at no cost - not even the deductible and absolutely no hassle (I believe our policy has this provision as do most SF policies). The repair people will come out, replace the windshield on site, and file the claim with SF.

3-4 years ago I nearly totalled my car - after the damage was repaired SF sent out a rep to examine the repairs. The rep found a couple things that I had missed including some paint spots and a bad sanding spot. State Farm through their agreement with the body shop made them fix the problems and provide me a rental car.

Plus, their rates are pretty competitive.... they do try to sell me life insurance everytime I call though.

Yeah...sorry about not clarifying that 😱

The best thing about USAA insurance is that my rate group is commissioned officers rather than 24-year-old males so I'm paying a lot less than I would at other places for similar coverage. I also bank w/USAA and got my mortgage and car loan (3.59% 🙂) from them. Someday, I'll switch from E-trade to using USAA's brokerage as well 🙂

State Farm and Farmers are great companies...

You get what you pay for... it might be a couple dollars more each month, but the much better service is worth it.
