Which is the best 9070 XT out of these?

Ok so I have a case that's got a max of 310mm room for video cards. So I'm somewhat limited in my choices of 9070's even though I'd love to get one of those bigger cards.

So out of these.. which is the best?:

If your case can handle the extra 2mm thickness, Gigabyte Gaming OC is the sweet spot. 3x 8-pin, meaning more power delivery margin (and more stable clocks).

Looks like it is fixed now. And yeah, you will likely get better OC results with the 3x8 pin power. Though I am not sure which has the best cooling design.

My Fractal R5 has a hard drive cage that's removable.. but I'm running 5 hard drives.. I'm not sure how I feel about leaving some of them on the floor of the case or maybe I'll have to DIY hack it.

Easiest would be going with a smaller card but it seems all the good cooled cards are extra length instead of width.

I mean just looking at the Powercolor reaper.. I don't know the reviews but based on the size of the depth of the cooler.. I'd say the thermals are not good.

So Gigabyte 3 x 8 pin or larger card sound right? (if I can find a way to make the hard drives lay flat on the case?

Recently I have considered ASRock, which seems decent. My sister got one. I wonder how the Acer cards are working out.

Daniel Owens is using the Acer 9070 for testing, and it looks to be a solid offering. Availability looks terrible though, as the only stock is from Memoryc.com and they are way overpriced. Must be allocating the bulk of them to their own PCs?

I also have never delt with Acer RMA. The exclusive partners all have solid service.

I'm curious.. is the 9070 a major downgrade over the 9070xt??

I've seen a few more of their versions that are under 310mm.

I mean I use a fractal Define R5 case..


So I have the ability to at least remove the upper hard drive cage if needs be for video cards.. however I'm running 2 NVME and 5 SATA HDD's. Those would be on the floor area then..

Do you think it's worth doing that for a longer card or just get a shorter card and leave the hdd's in place?

9070 is not that much slower than the XT, and will still be bottlenecked by a 12600k at times. Longer cards usually mean beefier cooling which can mean being quieter. I did see a couple of reviewers cite the Pulse 9070 2 fan as cool and quiet. It'd be a good choice for a shorter card. It's $599 so not a terrible price.

Been thinking about this more and more the last week or so.

Maybe I should get a 9060xt 16GB.. it'd still be a decent upgrade over a GTX 1080 and my room gets steaming hot in summer.. so much that even with an air conditioner running it doesn't get below 84F.. so that'd keep heat in check.

But I really did want to go to a 9070 card under 12 inches long. There I take my chances with inadequate cooling.. or I take my chances with hard drives on floor of the case not getting cooled by fans.

I think the 16GB 9060xt makes the most sense. But grrr it's hard saying no to a 70% upgrade for just $250 more.. if I'm right on the numbers that 9070 is 70% better than a 16GB 9060xt!

9070 is going to be significantly faster, but I would not expect a performance jump of 70% in games, at playable resolution and settings. There might be a few outlier titles where it gets close?

If you have already tuned the 12600K, the next suggestion to address the hotbox, is use a frame cap in single player games. No point in letting the card work as hard as it can if you are okay with 90fps in a game where it would have gotten 120+. In those titles with the frame cap the 9070 may use less wattage than the 9060XT.

I got the 9060 XT 8GB HellHound. The 16GB one was almost $200 more which just seemed too much for extra 8GB RAM. Yeah, it will be a pain at some point but I don't intend to use it as a main GPU.
