Which is more accurate... WeatherUnderground or Weather.com?

Just curious which one is more accurate. I've always noticed temperature differences between the two sites, but today there's a huge one. For the same zip code (19102), weather.com says the temperature is 50F, while WeatherUnderground says it's 65F. 😕

That's because the weather underground is warmer since it is closer to the core.

I prefer to use the Yahoo Weather.com widget though.
 
I use intellicast.com just because I liked their interface better but they've been F'ing with it lately so I might look into changing.

I thought they all got their data from the same place though..

That's what I thought too... but apparently not since there's a 15 degree difference...
 
I have found weatherunderground to be more trustworthy. I use it for more than just the outside temp, and from my experience, its better than weather.com (atleast for what i use it for).

they must be on a 45nm intel C2D CPU with the wrong Tjmax setting


all 3 sites show the same temp for me
 
I actually open a door or a window and take my own personal weather reading. It is by far the most accurate.
 
Maybe one's weather station is in the shade and another's is in the sun?

Look at it this way:

The ONLY way to tell which site is more accurate for you is to buy a thermometer and check for yourself. But then you don't need the weather sites anymore because you now own your own thermometer. Problem solved.

As far as accuracy goes, I'd recommend Weather.gov. Accuweather.com and WeatherUnderground.com sell their services to news stations, which means they probably hype things just a tad in order to make the news more exciting. Weather.gov is just your straight up government-sanctioned weather office that concentrates on getting is right.

Yes, I visit weather sites waaaaaay too often. Don't even get me started on the blogs/forums.
 
Weather.gov is the best. Plus they supply all those other sites with their information. I read somewhere that weather.com tried to get weather.gov to shutdown its online site so people had to go to the .com version. They just wanted more traffic.

The founder of Weather.com apparently is trying to sue Al Gore, haha.
 
wunderground.com uses personal weather stations that individuals setup at their homes which upload the data to their site. I believe that weather.com gets their data from weather stations at airports and radio stations.

So if someone has a personal weather station that is in direct sunlight, then the reading could be off causing a discrepancy.

Edit: I just noticed that when I entered in my zip code, I see this: Badger Ridge, Rochester, Minnesota (PWS) which indicates it is a personal weather station.
 
at weather underground, choose airport only and you wont get the PWS for that vicinity. Then again, if your far enough away from an airport, it could be off by a little bit, but shouldn't be much unless the nearest airport is far away. Small airports report weather too.

Me, I use a combination of the default weather sidebar gadget in Vista for current temp (almost always pretty close), or if I'm looking ahead I often go to accuweather.com. For radar though, I go to weather.com as they seem to have one of the best interactive radar, and even if not using interactive, the image is the most readable, clear, and precise.
 
Thanks for the websites, I had some fun playing with them. I also learn to my surprise, from weather.gov, that we are having a flood emergency. Interesting. Time to move the car to higher ground.
 
Here's the info for my zip code for Monday - Wednesday of next week. I guess I should track this and see who's closer to the real info.

the temperature on the personal weathers stations is more accurate with the weather stations in the sun you are getting the whole temperature that way weather men do not know how to take temperature so that is why is seems much warmer or hotter is because it is. The weather men do dot make any sense when the sun has all to do with the heating of the earth. And now with less ozone layer the sun is even hotter thus raising the temperature. And in my location Clearwater Florida there is no shade every ware you walk on the public sidewalk is in the sun so why would you want to know the temperature in the shade that is stupid. sunlight radiates all around you making it hotter so that heat is part of the temperature that you should not ignore
