When I bought my Prelude, I remember reading either MT or C&D had the 97 SH at 7.1 secs to 60MPH.

Nothing to write home about but not too bad either.

I didnt buy my 2000 prelude to beat the vette off the line or anywhere else, I do know that the thing still has about fifteen hunderd RPM's to go at 140 MPH or so and overall I am imressed with the Lude. Definitely beat a V6 camaro from about fifty yards all the way till the camaro shuts down due to the slow reeves of all domestics.

It may not be the fastest in the world but few things(slightly embellished ;) ) sound better than a VTEC spinning at 7000 RPMs and the blur of the trees going by at nearly three times the speed limit

In america amything that will get too a hundred miles an hour and feel like a sunday stroll is too fast and more for the sake of more is overkill.........

To each his own :)

But I do think the Prelude would beat the Camaro; how many horses did they have?

The Camaro is a 3.8L 200 hp V6
The Prelude is a 2.2 L 195 hp l4

But the Camaro has a ton more torque although the Prelude is significantly lighter.

<< ...in case his Val One goes off >>

Okay, I don't know about this dudes Valentine, but there's only room for one "Val One" around here, and that's ME, and I'm about to "go off" like you mentioned. :Q

what is it with these japanomobiles? "Prelude Type R/S/Si/Sir/SH(it)/ABC/XYZ" too much rice to count on one hand. :Q

get the V6 Fbody man.. you're in Texas for cripes sake.. just today I drove through the girls dorm parking lot at my college, and counted cars. Even when the vast majority of V6 Mustangs are sold to women under 25, here in Texas, this is FBODY country. I counted 19 fbodies, to 5 Mustangs, and MAYBE 6 or 7 various Honda's, mostly Civics. And this is in the women's lot! Tomorrow, a trip over to the men's dorm lot will show even more heavily in favor of fbodies..

but.. don't let me influence your decision any.. ;)

Why?

Because the more I think about it the more I think Camaros look like sh!t. In particular, I hate the rear tail lights. They are just awful. And like as you just pointed out, Texas is fbody country - which is why I don't want to get one. WHen I go off to school I would like to get a car that isn't as common as every other car. And besides, like said earlier in this thread, there's nothing like a vtec at 7,000 RPM - the sound of it will, in your words, "be a panty dropper."

Plus Hondas hold up better, and my dad isn't big on GM products due to his bad experiences with camaros in the 70s.

Have to agree with you on the taillights.. I dislike them as well.. and while I prefer the looks of a Mustang to any japanese car or Mustang, they aren't the best looking car. (this is.. ;)) thats why I bought a Firebird.. in my opinion, much better looking. I especially don't like the 98+ style Camaro rounded headlights.. the 93-97 Camaro receeded lights were much "meaner" looking.

think about a Firebird.. a very rare bird indeed. I've yet to see another Firebird the same color as mine in all of Texas.

also gotta disagree with this one..

take it from me.. the girls around here much prefer the rumble of a V8 to the high pitched bumble bee sound of a japanese 4 banger

But we're not talking V8 are we. I know for a fact there is no way my parents or I could afford insurance on a Z28 - My dad was quoted over $4,000 a year for a 98 Camaro Z28 for an eighteen year old with one <$1500 accident. You don't even own a V8 (yet). And personally if you are going to UT Austin bringing a vette would be the stupidest thing you could ever do. I remember you saying you'd possibly transfer...the roads there SUCK ASS. I'm down there every six months for something or other and every time it seems to get worse. It's not like you're in your old 83 Celica anymore, your V6 Camaro would be definitely above average for UT Austin, but a vette would just get keyed, f#cked over by drunk frat boys, and destroyed by the potholes in the city. I have had former students there (transferred out) tell me this, as well as current students. But again you're free to sell your Camaro that was just purchased, what, six months ago? for a vette. I just wouldn't transfer to Austin in that case.

Dude - you're always mentioning how much the cars you like impress girls, or mentioning the "panty-dropping" factor of a car. Do you need your car to get a girl or something? I mean, not to knock you or anything man, you're cool and all - but in every car thread you list the appeal of a certain car to the female population. It just seems like you rely on it to get girls.

well, thanks for the tips on Austin..

I still have no idea if I'm transferring or not.. I like my (several) jobs here, and cost of living is unbelieveably low, especially compared to Austin..

its just all those girls.. Texas is known for many things, and beautiful women is definately up there at the top! ;)

not to say there aren't a lot here.. but we're talking babe city in Austin.

I only said that in response to his mentioning of girls liking a high-revving honda vtec engine sound..

and honestly, girls are nice to look at, I love their reactions to cars, but its all in fun.. I'm actually in a pretty serious relationship with a wonderful girl I knew since I was in like the first grade. :) its all in fun, man. I just like to point out these things.. for some guys here, the panty-dropping factor is important, so I can't leave them hanging..

err.. wait.. that didn't sound quite kosher. :Q

I tend to agree. I'd much rather a girl like me for my body or my athletics than for my car. Some of the biggest nerds I have ever met drive the nicest cars at my school - two X5s, an M3, and several 5 series, are all driven by losers who have no life outside books. Granted there are a lot of popular people that drive nice cars - WS6 (I think) Trans Ams, 3-serieses and the like, but the majority of the school drives a fairly normal (but new) car.

If you need a girl to like your car to get her in bed with you, there's an issue there. I have been doing the same with a fairly un-sporty car.

K, just making sure! I mean, I've seen some sorry guys get girls cause of their possesions. If you were relying on it - I'd have to wonder ;)

There is a kid in the IT department for my school who inherited a load when his dad died.. he goes and blows it on a pimped out house, huge home theater system, all decked out, and he bought a BMW M coupe... with a stupid sticker on the hatch glass that says "Drive it like you stole it". and man, does he ever.. every single stop light or stop sign, he gets on it like a madman.. gets nearly sideways on every curve, fishtailing around corners..

and he's a huge nerd.
