I once played StarCraft 1 for over 6 hours, a single multi-player vs. Insane AI map. Does anyone else get a severe case of stiff neck after a few hours of straight gaming?

These days the back of my neck goes, my back seizes up and I even start to get inflammation between my ribs (costochondritis) if I don't get up regularly to stretch if I'm in front of the computer for an extended period.

Hardcore gaming is for the young :| In my 20s I would go hang out at internet cafes and play D2 & CS from sundown to sunrise and then go to classes. I'd probably keel over if I tried anything like that today.

I'm tempted to say that the champion is still Railroad Tycoon I. I played that literally for 8-12 hours at a stretch sometimes.

Oh, yeah, that's another one I would load up and 10 hours later ask "where the hell has the time gone."

my fingers/hands start getting sore, probably the onset of arthritis. But, I used to get the soar neck, but haven't much lately probably because of changes in how I sit.

Vanilla WOW I'd play 12 hours straight sometimes when we started doing MC.

Many all day sessions of Tribes, Quake 2 CTF, Tribes 2, Diablo 2, Quake 3, Doom, Duke Nukem 3d.

Now I don't play anything more than a couple of hours a day. That may change with Simcity.

Honestly some of the longest stretches by far were EQ - camping for certain items; then the damn fables; last time I did those we a few years ago and I was locked in as tank *paladin* as I was the best geared...48 hours later I said enough...someone's got to take over I'm crashing I'll be back when I wake.......8 hours later did another 30 hourish run for people.

Diablo was easily 12ish plus hours gaming each time; half the time just bsing and not gaming........ SC had a few matches hit 8ish hours playing 4 on 4 and stuff.....

Guildwars had lots of hours in it; GW2 starting to get more hours into it; Civ games have eaten so many hours; sit down for a short game and 12 hours later going son of a.

Stronghold does the same thing :D but nothing ate time like EQ......something about that game; wasn't so much the game but the people there....no it was also the game; the certain runs scared the hell out of me :)

Some of you cats must be OCD. I do not think I have ever been close to a 24hr session.

Final Fantasy II (IV) on the SNES!
I must have finished this game over 30 times.

I remember my first playthrough took about 35 hours...my last playthough took a littleo ver 10 hours. I was cruising in this game so fast and was exploring everything...

I can't see myself doing this now, i'm getting lazier by the years and sitting in front of a game for more than 1 hour I get the need to do something else or play something else or do 34536 things at the same time...lol

Civilization 2.

Start playing around 3 PM. It gets dark, then I hear birds chirping, then I'm starving and realize it's 10 AM the next day.

Minecraft. That game's ability to make you think you've only played an hour when it's actually been nine hours is scary.

gotta be a close tie between World of Warcraft and Civ 2.

the edge might go to Civ 2 simply because I was younger when I played it (high school, when I'd start gaming on Friday afternoon and play until Sunday night)... WoW came out during my twenties, after I had a social life and friends/dates/work to interrupt.

Definitely the Civilization series. No other game, except for Everquest perhaps, was nearly as addicting.

Probably Civilization 2. Didn't have school that day, started a new game at around 8 and finished the playthrough at 1AM, minus 15 minutes or so for bathroom and food throughout the time.

I've gotten plenty of time in with Minecraft, Final Fantasy and EVE but not usually all at once.

I don't really like the concept of marathoning I usually hear about, nevermind doing it. Games are engrossing but I never lost track to the point of losing times of the day. And with some of the older games it's not fun to look at CRTs for that long, my eyes burn out.

I'm not a fan of marathoning either, but when I was younger it definitely happened on a few occasions.

my neck, my back! my neck and my back! I have the same problems now, and agree completely! Damn it was nice in my 20s...pretty much every aspect of my life was better except I had no money.

Don't post often, but I had to share that Ultima Online was definitely my choice for long gaming sessions. Once played for basically a whole weekend.

I think the thing that made this most epic was that it was in the infancy of dial-up in my area, so none of the ISPs really new what they were doing. It was extremely common to lose my connection and white knuckle it during the dialing/squealing - desperately hoping to get back in the game. Most often, I'd come back to a corpse.

Good times...

I believe it was one of the Bards Tale games [the originals] or Dungeon Master games while still living with my parents - I pulled an all nighter session without realizing it until my Mom showed up at 6am asking if I had been playing all night.
